Council Member Fred Flickinger 1͏h͏ Earlier today, a teenager riding a scooter was involved in a collision with a vehicle in the H-E-B parking lot on Kingwood Drive. Houston Fire Department and Houston Police Department responded quickly, and we're thankful to report that the young rider's injuries appear to be minor, consisting primarily of road rash. He was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution for further evaluation. This serves as an important reminder for all of us. Parking lots can be just as dangerous as busy roadways. Whether you're riding a scooter, bicycle, skateboard, or walking, please stay alert, make eye contact with drivers whenever possible, and avoid darting between parked vehicles. Likewise, drivers should slow down, minimize distractions, and be especially watchful for children and teens who may be difficult to see. We're grateful this incident was not more serious and wish the young man a speedy recovery. Let's all do our part to keep one another safe.

#msg5979090just seeing this. i started sounding this alarm a year ago. I literally twitch when driving now. As a community we are beginning to sound an alarm in unison. Littles on high powered scooters have zero business sharing the roadways with 4 ton chunks of steel. To be sure they are fun as hell but there are parents right now wishing they'd just said NO.

#msg5979285Ruger5 : I have seen something very familiar, children not over 12 for sure most likely 9 or 10 riding a 4wheeler right here in my neighborhood going pretty fast also and give me a look like you sorry stupid old lady, I can do this if I want to. I always wish a sheriff would be cruising the streets when this happens but sadly no law enforcement in sight.

#msg5979262First we all complain kids aren't outside playing. Then we complained that kids are being coddled and aren't learning lessons the hard way. Now we're complaining kids are outside and we're not coddling them enough.

#msg5979392It definitely starts with the parents. I watch golf carts etc. drive down the greenbelt after dusk nightly. Then here come the Sunday morning spandex bike riders. If we don't follow the rules they will eventually be enforced.

#msg5979494Zz98721 : It is plainly marked "No motorized vehicles" on the greenbelt. I once reminded some young kids of this and the reply to me was "It is not a motor, it is a battery"! It DOES start ( or not) with the parents.
