Healthy burger or sandwhich
FoFa says:
"I don't know what to call this, feel free to experiment with the recipe. I was looking for something to replace burgers, since I love them, but have to cut back on saturated fat. DW didn't like the poultry burgers. Tried Mushroom, and a variety of "garden" burgers with no luck, but the mushroom had some possibility. So I created this one. Is it a replacement for burgers, not exactly, but it does seem to satisfy both the beef and substance parts.
I find that less fixings on the sandwich is usually better for this type.
Anyway, the leaner the beef, the better. You still get that beef flavor, but the mushroom adds flavor plus makes up for the burger meat you would normally have.
NOTE - Piling on the minute steak does make this a healthy sandwich, one piece is enough!"
Per burger:
1 portobello mushroom cap, cleaned.
1 minute steak, or a piece of tenderloin (or other lean beef) pounded real thin. (I like a piece big enough to "fold over" on the bun.
Burger/Sandwhich fixings of your choosing
marinade for mushrooms - adjust quantity as required for number of mushroom caps.
balsamic vinegar
oil (I like some olive and little sesame myself)
Crushed garlic clove (fresh is way better for this)
Dried italian seasoning (just what I use)
salt and pepper to taste.
Clean the mushroom caps, I usually like to discard the stems, and trim the black gills away (well my wife likes them that way, I personally don't care).
Mix the marinade ingredients.
Pour over mushrooms in some container. Let stand at room temp for 15-30 minutes, or longer in the fridge.
Grill mushroom caps, About a minute or two before those are done, cook the minute steak so it will be done at the same time.
Assemble burger with your choice of sandwich fixings.
