This week in our "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, we sat down with Cesar & Jennifer Coronel, owners of JC Sports!

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
At JC Sports Houston, we are a multi-sport youth development center that specializes in age-appropriate sports training for kids ages 2 and up. We offer programs in soccer, baseball, basketball, football, and multi-sport classes designed to develop athletic skills in a fun, engaging, and structured environment. Our curriculum focuses on not only physical development but also on building confidence, teamwork, and a love for sports from an early age.
We’ve been serving families in the Houston area since 2014, and over the years, we've become a trusted name inyouth sports training. Our mission is to develop well-rounded young athletes by combining top-level coaching with a nurturing, positive atmosphere that keeps kids motivated and coming back.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
At that time, both of our children started joining sports as toddlers and we realized that there were not quality programs to teach fundamentals at their level. We wanted to create a school environment for sports that teaches
gross motor skills, basic sports techniques like throwing, catching, dribbling, shooting, etc. We decided to open our indoor center in July 2014 and started with 70 students. We offered curriculum based teaching which we still offer today so there is consistency and quality to our sports instruction. Things took off pretty quickly as the word got out about our services. Both Jennifer and myself quit our corporate jobs to devote 100% to the business.

What separates you from the competition?
We do not see JC Sports as a business but as a ministry serving families in the community and to educate that there is a different way to experience youth sports. We wanted to and still do create an environment where children feel safe to learn something new while taking risks and making mistakes. We strive to reeducate families from yelling and screaming and using negative reinforcement to fostering a healthy environment where kids attain good foundational skills and have fun at the same time. The more we educate parents, the more kids will enjoy sportsand stay engaged a lot longer all while having fun and staying healthy.
Today, we are known as the training center where you go to learn fundamentals, and we are proud of that. I will also say that we feel pretty proud about our customer service as well.
What separates us from the competition?
We take pride in serving our clients but also we take pride in who we are and what we do. We do not compromise or change our core values because we believe and have seen our programs work. We only use hired and trained coaches to run sessions and utilize the latest technology to create engagement and drive performance. We have
great local and international partnerships so our athletes can see and feel what is to play at the highest possible level. And we have our own indoor center in Atascocita where we run all our indoor programs

Playing and having fun with kids all day long, seeing the kids growing up and applying what we teach them and now after 10 years in business seeing the kids that started with us when they were 4-6 years old and are now working with us as assistant coaches or refereeing our games. Also creating community and connection between our clients. We have been blessed to see friendships and family made through our programs.
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Anyone with kids that is open to let the child explore sports and choose on their own. Someone who is ready to take an approach to sports development where they will let their child take the lead. Encourage their interests and pour resources, time, and attention to the things their child takes an interest in. Be willing to encourage and gently
push them when things get hard, and value family over competition.

We are different, and we are proud of it. We teach sports with the same ideology of teaching a child how to read; one step at a time.
