As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, we sat down this week with Matt and Anne Evers of Primrose School of Atascocita.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Primrose School of Atascocita is a premium preschool offering care for children ages six weeks through twelve years. We have classrooms ranging from infants through kindergarten and afterschool care. Our school serves the Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita, Huffman, and Crosby communities.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
The Primrose School of Atascocita was originally opened in 1999. In 2014 we needed  childcare for our first son, Cooper. Feeling disappointed by our experience , we decided to purchase our own school. We became the proud owners of Primrose School of Atascocita in 2015.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
We are proud to provide an invaluable service to the area which we live. Owning Primrose School of Atascocita allows us to play an integral part in developing future leaders. We also feel blessed to provide a place of employment for nearly 30 amazing members of our community.
What really sets us apart is what we call our Primrose Journey, which is the path that led us to owning our school. This journey plays a large part of what drives our efforts to be the best. Unfortunately, in 2014, with Cooper we had a negative experience at a local daycare. When we brought concerns to the leadership, we didn’t feel as if they cared. We felt like just a number. When we left the daycare, we were made to feel as if there was another child waiting to take our place. This experience drove our decision to purchase our own school. We never want a family to feel as we did. The desire for every family to feel like their child is the only one that matters is very important to us. Since both of our children attend the school it is very easy for us to ask ourselves when making daily decisions, “What’s the best choice for the child? What will result in the best outcome for the child? What’s going to produce the best educational experience for the child?”

What is your favorite part of running this business?
Our favorite part of running this school is getting to know the wonderful families in this community. We have made so many friends the last five years that started out as families in our school.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
We serve families with children ages six weeks to twelve years who want the best educational experience for their child. We are not a traditional daycare that just babysits your child. We are a school that will provide a proven head start to your child’s elementary school years and beyond. Our after-school program is for parents that need a nurturing place where their children can make friends and continue to learn while having fun.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
Matt is from Crosby and graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelors in Economics. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Anne attended the University of Wisconsin, where she had a double major in psychology and business, then earned a Masters of Law.  We both have a background in sales, marketing and customer service. We have two sons that attend Primrose School of Atascocita.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
We have exciting events planned for this fall and winter, such as our Magical Pumpkin Patch, where the children will discuss planting seeds and how plants grow as they plant magical pumpkin seeds. When they arrive at school the next day, they will be excited to see magical pumpkins have grown overnight in our Primrose Patch! We are hopeful to be able to continue our tradition of hosting a Fall Festival while taking precautions as needed due to the current circumstances.

Is there any other information you would like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
We are taking measures to adhere to high standards of safety and cleanliness while maintaining a caring and nurturing environment where children can thrive. The health and safety of our staff and the children entrusted to our care is our top priority.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?

We hope to continue to meet the needs of the families in our community for years to come and for more families to join our school.
