#msg6028478The statement that " they pay in but don't take out" is so simplistic that any study using it as an argument does not sound based on what will actually happen on a large scale.

Darla897 : I know how this is occurring but I dont really want to talk about it. Cop out I know. But I'm living this.
In general, take one 34 year old who came here at age 7 with his mother. Been working since he was 18. Various jobs--lots of restaurant jobs. Some construction jobs. Sometimes not paid at all for his work--and what can he do about it? Sometimes paid SS taxes (IDK- 5 years or so). Has no hope of ever collecting anything. Sure doesnt want to call attention to the fact that he wasnt born here now.
And this is a person who does now have legal status, but he didnt for many years.
You will have to believe or not believe what I am saying, because I just cant go into it more.
Some others dont have status and dont even know how to get it. They own a restaurant and ICE is often parked in their parking lot, so on those days they cant open the restaurant.
What a way to live. All this to a family who has been here for decades and broke no (non-immigration) laws. Just wanted a better life.

Rapsalot :
That report attributes demographics as the key reason and it makes assumptions without knowing how pay will be affected by hiring Americans. So if that is your "better" source where is the rest? Is that it??

Did you analyze the raw data to reach your conclusion that they are wrong?
In my opinion, it is best to track it, not rely on snapshots. Tendiencies can, for lack of a better term, be sensed. Felt in the bones. A red sun in the morning means storms to an experienced sailor.

It's not a cop out; I understand on that.

This "system" we have does not work for anyone. Businesses here did not want to pay American wages so they asked people to come over and did not care to be strict about processes at all. Reagan said to the voters that we would help those here become citizens but "NO MORE". So he made his supposedly "strong" stance and nothing changed. Americans lost their jobs/businesses to immigrants. (Glad Microsoft is being taken to task on this.)
Of course you wanted a better life. I have met only a few immigrants over the course of decades who were up to anything OTHER than just wanting to work. But now the tide has turned and many want "illegals" out. ( Hard to call them "illegal" when they were invited/ drawn in by so many willing to pay them but there it is.)

With a Democratic administration the pendulum will swing the other way (keeping in mind that Republicans also have a long history of being desirous of cheap labor as well.) What might "stick" now though is Americans fighting for jobs not only because of immigration but also because of what job sectors AI will decimate.

You are " in the wrong" legally and that is a terrible place to be when all of a sudden our country wants to "crack down." Trump is doing this all for show; he doesn't care about American workers. We are all waiting to see what "sticks" after Trump and what it means for each of us.

Darla897 :
I better clear this up:
I am not the immigrant. Fourth generation Texan.
Relatives are not the family I was born into, but the family we have now.
It sure sounds to me like you get the angst of those living this.
Thank you.
