Mothballs do nothing to deter snakes and are actually illegal to use outside. The only thing that does deter snakes is to keep grass mowed short, leave no debris and keep everything cleaned up. They are not after people, and do eat rodents. I'd scoop it up and let it go away from the house. I've had my hand within striking distance (without realizing it) and nothing happened. I've seen my dogs literally step over a copperhead and nothing happened. Checkout theFB page Southeast Texas Snake ID. Very knowledgable, factual info.

Dangerous and venomous - definitely a hazard to everyone including the pets.
That is a healthy mature specimen of a copperhead. My dog was bitten by one in our yard and it was not pretty.

#msg6019585It seems like there are a lot of copperheads in Kingwood, any reason?

#msg6019799I had a large water moccasin in my back yard a few years ago. Maybe 5 feet. Very aggressive. I did NOT catch and release. Putting him the in green space behind my yard, I was concerned that someone else may run in to him as there are a lot of kids and joggers running through.

Did you crank the weed eater up full throttle and shotgun him?

We had a nope rope in our pool one day over the summer, but it wasn't a copperhead. I'm not sure what type it was, but it was able to slither and climb its own way out of the side of the pool and went away. I only know that because I watched it in horrifying fascination from the safety of the inside of my living room. Lol I still think about it wandering around out there.

You are right! I got hung up with the hype - I do that when I get around copperheads.
