#msg5994967Don't ignore train crossing arms! Houston man dead A 73-year-old man died early Monday after his vehicle was stuck on railroad tracks while he was attempting to drive around lowered crossing arms, before being hit by a train in north Harris County, authorities said. The train's conductor told deputies the man attempted to go around the railroad crossing arms rather than wait for the crossing to clear. His vehicle became stuck on the tracks, and the approaching train hit the car, according to HCSO. The man was the only person inside the vehicle. He died at the scene, authorities said. His identity has not been released. Aerial footage from the scene showed the train stopped on the tracks with the crossing arm still lowered. The vehicle was several hundred feet ahead of the train. www.chron.com/news/a rticle/houston-train -car-crash-22401447. php

#msg5995065Joe : Donnawisdom : UptownGirl : Chickadee : Zz98721 : sweetie : ForestFinds : True story! When I was first driving in my hometown of Cincinnati, I approached a RR crossing. Arms were not down so, I began crossing the tracks when I heard a loud horn sound...the train was barreling down on me! I hit the gas and made it across but dang..terrifying for a new driver. Moral of the story is....don't trust, always look both ways and maybe even..crack your window to hear if a train is coming.

If, there was I'd send a year supply to the Trumpster to stop his destruction of our national parks & landmarks. Anything honoring past presidents is a target. Even if, it is for the benefit of the citizens!❤️Gray boxed for being political and/or controversial in a General Chat discussion.

#msg5995813Cbear : I bet that was really scarry for you and I bet you are always very careful when crossing RR tracs now. I always look both ways. I have had it to where there is a train sitting on the tracks about a 100 yards from the crossing. That is a fright and it's not even moving.

I always hear the ding ding ding in my head when I cross tracks, lol. I had the arms start coming down as I hit them. Now can't unhear it.
When we moved back to AArizona the light metro runs down main street. It's super scary as there are no real barriers and you need to learn the red and green plus and minus signs. Those crossings to a newbie without real know how was scary. So we ventured down to mill Ave in tempe. That thing runs right smack in the road and does this cross. When the light is red and traffic is heavy, you on the tracks. I told my dh, nope, I'm outta here because I am seriously uncomfortable sitting on these tracks.
We used to cross the trains when we were kids. If they were on the tracks we either crawled over between the cars or crawled under. One kid decided to crawl under even though it was close to move time. He had both his legs amputated. We never crawl on, over, under again.
I've only hopped one train in my day. Took the ride and hopped off.
