Mayor Whitmire to propose a trash fee to bring in more dollars.

$5 a month starting next year, then $10 a month the next year with scheduled regular increases. So much for free trash pick up to those with COH services

They don't mention those of us paying for private trash pick up. I assume this does not include us?

It's not for us I guess. I'm paying $250 a year now for the private pick up, but the city doesn't get any of that. I just had an alarming thought they wanted it from all of us. It's simply another tax. Why should we skate out of it lol.

And, the HOA gets a kick back from COH for NOT using their trash services. $12 per home.

Donnawisdom : As it stands, the COH pays the HOA for each home they do not pick up trash at. In turn, the HOA pays that money to the private garbage service. I figure that will go away and then we will have to pay the entire amount to our private garbage service. I don't think we will ever have to pay anything to the COH for service they have never given us.

MissAmericanPie : If the COH can find a way to charge us they will. They have no shame! They are putting it on the water bill. Lots of people will not even notice it.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA :
We're paying $92/qtr for Best Trash service, so those serviced by COH would still be getting a deal at $10/mo.

I remember when Anise Parker instituted her Drainage Charge, supposedly to improve conditions in communities like Bordersville.

MissAmericanPie : Democrat mayors are known for squeezing out every penny ….the silliness they come up with to pay for their freebies. Our mayor is moderate, thankfully, but have you seen Seattle and NYC's taxes? Yikes holy moly.

My DD has COH trash and ...they are not very good. They only have 1 pick up weekly vs 2. The heavy trash pick up is only once per month and sometimes they skip it. You have to pay for a 2nd trash can if you need one. I am thankful for Best. Those men work hard and fast. Take nearly everything at the curb.

Houston is the only major city that doesn't charge for trash. This is long past due.

Time for y'all to have a conversation with the HOAs about service availability and pricing. If they are getting a kick back for using private, that needs to come off the homeowners bill for private service.

CaffeineFree : I agree $10 a month is a good deal but I would not trade my private service for the service the COH gives.

cbear : My sister has COH and she hates it. She recently learned they will no longer have large trash pick up every month. Instead, they will have it 4 times a year and have to call in to have it picked up. Best trash is great!
