Mayor Whitmire to propose a trash fee to bring in more dollars. $5 a month starting next year, then $10 a month the next year with scheduled regular increases. So much for free trash pick up to those with COH services They don't mention those of us paying for private trash pick up. I assume this does not include us? www.click2houston.co m/news/local/2026/05 /04/why-houstons-may or-says-a-new-t

Well not really wanting to be charged for trash pick up that I am not even using.
It's not for us I guess. I'm paying $250 a year now for the private pick up, but the city doesn't get any of that. I just had an alarming thought they wanted it from all of us. It's simply another tax. Why should we skate out of it lol.

And, the HOA gets a kick back from COH for NOT using their trash services. $12 per home.
We're paying $92/qtr for Best Trash service, so those serviced by COH would still be getting a deal at $10/mo.

My DD has COH trash and ...they are not very good. They only have 1 pick up weekly vs 2. The heavy trash pick up is only once per month and sometimes they skip it. You have to pay for a 2nd trash can if you need one. I am thankful for Best. Those men work hard and fast. Take nearly everything at the curb.
Houston is the only major city that doesn't charge for trash. This is long past due. Time for y'all to have a conversation with the HOAs about service availability and pricing. If they are getting a kick back for using private, that needs to come off the homeowners bill for private service.
