#msg5920342cbear : And now this …..im glad to see many parents are taking notice. In no way is this safe for kiddies or adults. Parents, please, just say NO. www.click2houston.co m/news/local/2026/05 /15/juvenile-injured -in-a-mini-bike

Ruger5 : JMO but, I maintain that human powered wheels are enough. When I was young, I rode my bike where I wanted to go. Stayed off busy streets etc. I stayed in good physical shape as well. We do have a childhood obesity problem in this country.

#msg5920121Parents are rising up against the onslaught of powered scooters AND RIGHTLY SO. They are out of control dangerous. I asked a police officer just today what can be done…..he said mam, we're working on it. It's being addressed. I suggested schools outright banning them would be a great start.

Ruger5 : Saw this just now on the news. They said an 11 year old was involved in another accident recently and she passed. 😔

Ruger5 :
I agree that there should be safety rules and regulations that need to be enforced, such as wearing helmets and obeying the same traffic laws that motorized vehicles adhere to, such as stopping at stop signs and traffic lights, etc. But, (and I'm really not trying to start an argument), I don't think that they should be banned altogether. I think that with today's families that have both parents working, these scooters and bikes have become a form of transportation for these kids to be able to get themselves to school and back, sometimes from the lack of available transportation in their area. For some, a bus is not provided if you live within a certain mile range from a school. Also, let's not forget our ISD's late arrival Thurs, which is a burden on working parents from middle school age through high school. I do want to see these kids being safe, and it should start with the parents teaching them how to correctly and safely ride on our streets and the trails, but I don't agree with a complete ban on the scooters and ebikes. Perhaps, there needs to be a bike lane put in place on the roads for riding safety. That's just my two cents, for whatever it's worth. My kiddo is about to get his driver's license and I'm terrified about how aggressive drivers are everywhere, everyday, and I'm very concerned about him being careful around these kids riding bikes and scooters on the road, but I just think there can be some type of compromise here.

CatalinaD : Very valid points. What we have here tho is a problem far harder to enforce than meets the eye, so we need to have a situation where enforcement is null and void, because the law decides to enforce existing laws. They are already against city ordinances and actually state law too.

We're looking at potentially thousands of these high powered scooters sharing dangerous roadways with children who have zero business on these things in the first place. Minus under the watchful eyes of a responsible adult in an off road field or the like.

How many children with their entire lives yet to be lived will die? I can't even imagine.

As for school transportation, any student in KW living outside reasonable walking distance has a bus ride. These arent a necessary rides home….ever heard of a bicycle? Banning these from school property would be a huge step towards getting these things under control. They are literally taking over the roads. Soooo dangerous.

Ruger5 : I agree that they are dangerous, and I've also seen a lot of questionable behavior out on the streets while I'm driving. I saw on the news last night that a child was killed in Alvin riding her bike to school, and that's absolutely tragic and my heart goes out to the parents of the little girl. I'm just not sure that a ban on these scooters and bikes are the answer, and I doubt that people will stop buying them even if they become against the law. Safety should be Everyone's first concern and priority, whether in a car or on a bike, though.

#msg5920178They're just kids. Let them be kids.

I get the concept but way too much traffic, congestion and people here now. If we were in a more rural area I'd agree

Someone will eventually die…. Just a matter of time. Not worth it

CatalinaD : I agree…..a ban would be over kill, but they must be regulated at the very least. What isn't already regulated in life anyway? Cant even drive without wearing a seat belt…..these things are already against the law to begin with, BUT they are fun, here to stay …….not going anywhere, expected to increase in popularity by the thousands, hence the need to become regulated. I just hope what finally catches the attention of the lawmakers and law enforcement community doesn't come in the form of too many deaths. I have pics of elementary students riding these things on KW dr. Shudder.

Ruger5 :
Well I thought of you this morning bc I'm in Royal Shores all week, and coming down Willow Terrace this morning to the 4 way stop sign at the school and 4 of us all coming to à stop and some kid on a motor scooter comes out of NOWHERE and plows through the intersection WHILE the crossing guard was holding her sign up in the street. She was yelling and waving her sign and he just flew right by her. Good grief!

MissAmericanPie : Shudder…….I see that DAILY. Imagine after this Christmas and these numbers increase ten fold. Now imagine summer when hundreds of teenage boys are behind the wheel of 4 tons of steel NOT looking out for these littles. OMG

Ruger5 : I'm blaming parents at this point. Kids are kids and they're having fun. However these are motorized vehicles that they are on the road ways and green belts with and have zero knowledge of laws, rules or courtesy. If you're going to allow your kid to endanger themselves, have the common sense to equip them with some perimeters of safety and rules of the roads. SMH and in shaming mode lol

It's not just kids. While walking my dog on the greenbelt, a 40ish old male didn't slow down and missed hitting my dog by a few inches. He never signaled to us that he was coming and I couldn't hear his motor until he was right on top of us. Bad Karma to that loser!

They have had no safety lessons of rules of the road. Three kids came blasting out from behind trees from the Green Belt from Greentree Elementary and didn't even slow down entering the crosswalk and road Monday. I slammed on my brakes as
soon as I saw them, which was almost too late!!. They proceeded down the middle.of the street, ran 2 stops signs and almost got hit again.
One kid on his Ebike must always be late for school at Creekwood. He speeds down Falling Brook, rounds the corner, never slowing down at the stop sign, speeds down the middle of.the next street, doesn't even slow down at W.Lake Houston ( both sides) and speeds into the parking lot. Horns blare everyday-- but I've seen him do it 3 times now-- and prayed the whole.way!!!

Chow : They're no different than bikes, only more popular. Some old folks don't like them cause they're the latest "new-fangled gizmo". Let the kids have their fun. Their parents should teach them the rules of the road. Not a bunch of old-timers on a local message board.

StinksMcNulty : Oh just stop it. You are one of only two that I've seen who doesn't see the danger in 8 and 9 year olds sharing Kingwood Dr with 6 ton chunks of steel. You know better.
