I am thinking about moving a bit more north of Houston. I liked Huntsville when I was there.

Look, after COVID, the new freeway speedlimit is 15 over. Less than that, the cops not pulling you over. City streets, if you want to drive the speedlimit, go for it. IN THE RIGHT LANE. Under the speedlimit? Fine. IN THE RIGHT LANE! Be courteous, please.

Now neighborhoods are different. Get off my ****! I'm doing the speedlimit or under in the neighborhood! And you can KMA. We can stop and have a conversation (civil on my part) if you want!

CelticStorm : Neighborhood speed limits are sometimes really messed up…I know of at least one looping road in a quiet neighborhood with lots of kids, and many visual obstructions, that has a 30 mph speed limit…it really should be more like 15mph or 20 mph max…if I were to go 30 mph down that road, I'd be slaughtering kids left and right…

Joe : We have roads like that all over Kingwood. 30 MPH is to fast. I tend to go 20 to 25 in a neighborhood because even when I don't see kids they are likely there. With cars parked on the street and kids you can't see because of the cars are taller then them, you have to be really careful. When I was a kid my dad was on his way home from work and stopped at the convenience store to pick up a gallon of milk. There was an apartment complex across from the store. The apartment side of the street was lined with a 10 foot hedge of Oleanders. He had just pulled out of the parking lot and couldn't have been going more than 10 mph when he felt a bump under the back tire of his pickup truck. There was a little 8 year old boy playing ball in the apartment parking lot. His ball went through the hedge and so did he. He ended up under the truck and was run over. He was home alone as his mom was at work. He was in the hospital for quite a wile but did make a full recovery. Anyway, we can not be to careful cause we can't always see them. To everyone, If you are behind me in a neighborhood and I'm going 20 mph there is a good reason!

Joe :
I agree. I live in the back of a neighborhood and when leaving, 20 or slower until I get to the wide open main artery to get in and out of the neighborhood. No street facing houses, no cars parked on the side etc etc. There, I will go 30mph.

When we first moved into the neighborhood, a child was killed. Stuck with me. Screw the speeders behind me!

I know they would be really unpopular, but speed trap cameras actually work, and they don't put cops' lives in danger during a traffic stop. Personally, I hate them, but they sure would make me slow down...

#msg5930151Would a 39.5 Speed Limit sign work on KW Drive?   At least one place in the US is trying out a new eye-catching speed limit sign to get drivers to pay attention. "39.3 mph" vs say...40 mph.   What do you think about a similar strategy on Kingwood Drive? Would this improve traffic safety?

Fireba11 :
I don't think anyone mentioned this before, but there is a reason they call speed bumps what they do. They work! But would you like miles and miles of speed bumps? 😵‍💫

Oh, I am all for supporting the blue, just understanding they don't have enough money to support a larger force. 😢

Or enough people who want the job these days. I mean it when I say "Heaven help us" if people don't start growing up and teaching their families to do the same.
