Sherwood Trails. Which neighbor is responsible when it's just normal wear and tear?

billcherie2 : Hurricane Ike took out 80% of my fence in 2008. I put in a request just to be safe. But I also advised them that it was a safety issue because I had a 10 foot deep pool ! I needed the fence asap.
They responded immediately. Told me as long as it was the same height as before, I could proceed.

billcherie2 : I have never sought their approval for anything. My entire backyard fence was rebuilt by my late 15 years ago. When a TS Nicholas tore down the back section, I got 3 bids and my neighbor and I discussed it and it was replaced. I have taken down trees in the front yard, replaced windows, replaced front door, painted exterior. It never even occured to me to discuss it with them. Furthermore, those who have brought it up to HOA, have been super frustrated. Took a long time to get a response, I think someone even said that the HOA did not approved something.

I'm sorry but...there are 2 homes in BB village which are painted a horrible shade of blue. They are in fact right next to each other. Called the "blueberry houses". Been that way for years and nothing has been done to them. Believe me when I say....it is pretty awful looking. Don't know if they got approved or not but, if I had to look at that, I would complain to HOA.

Not sure what HOAs authority about fences, after Texas legislatures passed that fence law a couple years ago.

I lived in Greentree for 12 years… and the HOA there is very active! They hounded me constantly. Once I began getting letters/threats about my front yard. Just 4 months prior to these letters, I had paid a small fortune to have a landscaper replace all mulch & many plants. And yes, I had a yard man who mowed/edged every 2 weeks. It took about a year+ before they stopped hounding me.
Another time it was about my garbage can. They first complained it needed to be replaced (it was approx 18 months old) Small holes caused by the garagemen dragging it was unacceptable! 2nd they became unhappy about where I stored my can during the week. (I was in a cul-du-sac on a large corner lot.) My garbage can was apparently only visible by the HOA… (I kept it inside my fence!🙄).
- those were the most lengthy troublesome events.

lizzycav : God forbid that your trash cans are visible from the street! We can't have people know that you make garbage! LOL! The trash can thing is assinine. JMO but, HOA is more negative than positive. We had a neighbor on the street who was awful. They were trashy with yard decor, got drunk and yelling all the time, bonfires in the backyard and running 4 wheelers up and down the street and all over the village. Cops and Fire department called so many times. I know for a fact that HOA had many complaints as 2 neighbors on my street were on the board. Nothing was ever done. She cheated on him, they got a divorce and moved away. Their kids stayed living there and those kids were better behaved than their mother.

We replaced the fence with our next door neighbor after Hurricane Beryl and neither of use contacted the HOA. Our friends down the street repainted their house and front door the exact same color and the HOA challenged them for not getting prior approval. 😱

Oh that sounds awful. We built a new home in Walden in 1999… within 6 months we had to put up a wrought iron fence & gate! The teens next door thought it was funny to damage our property. The parents kept a fridge full of beer for them in their garage. - We moved out in 2001 for our sanity. 🤨

We replaced various portions over the years and never got approval. I guess if you paint it lime green then they might notice.

Had the same problem with the 'visible trash can' harassment, from them. But...they had to walk All the way up my driveway, as it had a 'jog' to the right, where the 3 car garage began, and the can was Virtually hidden in that corner, Unless you were within 3 feet of the fence over the walkway from the back door, to the man door of the garage. So, they had to walk all the Up my driveway, to even get a glimpse of it. Meanwhile, the lazy neighbor Left their trash can at the curb, and would walk trash bags out To the can, that Resided halfway In the street, in front of their home. The last time I heard from them, is when I sent them 7 pics attached to an email; one for Each day of a week, that neighbor's can was In the street. I like them keeping things in line, but that was Too much :0

I replaced my fence after Beryl- did not consult the HOA. It matched the one I replaced. I would think as long as it fit the height regs for your village and is a regular cedar fence that you don't need permission. My neighbors and I shared the costs.

In Texas it's legal for a minor to drink in the presence of their parents or a guardian. But I did mention it to the police on one of their calls. (They cited Texas law to me & said they couldn't do anything).
