Post Office question. How is the large mailbox in the drive-thru lane emptied? Does the mail fall into a large bag which is removed, closed, and sent to the main post office (or wherever) for processing? Or, is the mailbox opened from the back and the mail physically removed by hand and then transferred into a bag which goes to wherever to be processed? TYIA

not sure how they do it, now. I would call the post office, and ask. 281-913-1999. USPS General number is 1-800-275-8777; not sure the KW p.o. will answer, but they Might!
Yes, it is a gamble on whether or not the KWPO will answer the phone! 🤣
I have seen the large box in front at KW so full it's falling on the ground at Christmas time. And people still try to jam crap in! I always go inside and have never lost anything in 8 years.

I drove by once when. It was being g emptied . A man had a large canvas looking cart that everything was in and he was pushing it back towards the building.
I have seen a man taking out a bin from one of those at another location. He opened the back door and the bin was smaller than the amount of letters actually needed. He then looked inside to see if he left any. I wondered because the bin was overflowing if he might have accidentally ever lost one when it fell out. I remember thinking that he should have had something that would close for his trip in.
If you are wondering if it might have been lost in the transfer, from what I have seen how they do it ... it might have been. sorry.
..my sentiments exactly, and I think the other number will respond, but maybe not til Monday..?

Not sure why anyone still trusts those outside drop boxes.

Hopefully they receive it...
I automatically take my mail to be sent......INSIDE. Yes, I too have seen December mail in the outside mail collection bin FULL. In the past it is emptied about 5 PM. Fortunate to not have any mail lost.
