Post Office question. How is the large mailbox in the drive-thru lane emptied? Does the mail fall into a large bag which is removed, closed, and sent to the main post office (or wherever) for processing? Or, is the mailbox opened from the back and the mail physically removed by hand and then transferred into a bag which goes to wherever to be processed? TYIA

Picasso13 :
not sure how they do it, now. I would call the post office, and ask. 281-913-1999. USPS General number is 1-800-275-8777; not sure the KW p.o. will answer, but they Might!

I have seen the large box in front at KW so full it's falling on the ground at Christmas time. And people still try to jam crap in! I always go inside and have never lost anything in 8 years.

I have seen a man taking out a bin from one of those at another location. He opened the back door and the bin was smaller than the amount of letters actually needed. He then looked inside to see if he left any. I wondered because the bin was overflowing if he might have accidentally ever lost one when it fell out. I remember thinking that he should have had something that would close for his trip in.
If you are wondering if it might have been lost in the transfer, from what I have seen how they do it ... it might have been. sorry.

Darla897 : If I get neighbors mail I walk it over to them. If I get previous owners mail after 6 months I may pop it in outdoor box cos by then is their issue to fix, not mine. Lol
Hopefully they receive it...

Picasso13 : I have seen them emptying the letters from the big box and they put them into a canvas cart with wheels. They were putting the letters into the cart by hand. They were not in a canvas bag that could be shut before being removed from the big box. It looked like a mess to me. If I have to mail something I take it inside.
