The Love Boat-Pretty Racy ( Who Knew?!)

I have watched a few episodes of the LB late at night, lately. Enjoyed watching it back in the day, in 1977, I was in high school, then. Now watching it, I see how 'adult' it really was! Captain Stubing and the Doctor hooked up with a new passenger on Each episode, often finding the woman as she boarded the ship, as she asked cruise director Julie her cabin number, and quickly inviting these ladies back to their staterooms to 'see their maps'. :0 There are episodes about a former prostitute being on the ship with her fiancee, and lo and behold, an old 'customer' boards, and a chase ensues. One about an older lady who cougars up any male above 14! I was just allowed to date when I was first watching, so knew nothing of all of these adult hijinks. Which old tv series do you enjoy?

Bestie went on a Princess repositioning cruise and they had the series playing. Had me interested enough to recently watch a few episodes. Quite a bit went over my young head too!

Annie :
SO many hook ups on that ship. LOL! Back then, I was just allowed to go on my first dates, so I had little knowledge of all of this monkey business. Emoticon They also had a lot of guest stars; even Andy Warhol was on an episode!

I remember feeling weird about it too. He always sounded so kind to the passengers and they seem to throw themselves at him in his uniform. I was very very young at that time and my parents would say it was inappropriate. I wasn't allowed to watch threes company either because my family said it was inappropriate for a man to be living with a woman or more than one woman not married even if roommates.

All of that would have gone over my head back in the day. I think in my life I have only seen a few episodes. This was why I wanted to go on a cruise for my honeymoon. I was so shocked at the fact that it was just normal people on the cruise 😂😂😂

I was like 4 when that show was airing I used to cringe when I heard the intro song. My babysitter watched it all day

Oh, you mean back when the writers of TV shows and movies were smart enough to write things so adults got one experience and children got another, yet both enjoyed the show?

Now all the do is throw it in your face with language and or nudity because most people aren't smart enough to get innuendo.

The list of stars that were guest stars on The Love Boat is very impressive.

I used to love to watch LB and I, like you, was a teenager in high school. I don't remember the racy innuendo but my mind was yet to go there. Emoticon
I recently watched some reruns of Barney Miller. That was a great show too.

I was still a little kid when that show came on, so it's most likely that all of it went over my head. Lol. Our parents didn't monitor the TV, so we just watched whatever came on at the time. I do remember thinking that the show Fantasy Island was creepy, it had weird vibes to me, and I didn't enjoy watching that one too much.

HappyDay2016: this was so true about how people felt about men and women being roommates without an emotional attachment back in the day ,but honestly ,when I was a sophomore at the University of Texas, I lived in a house with two other people; one guy, one girl. The guy was so much better a roommate ,than the girl could ever dream of being!! She ended up moving in with a boyfriend after six months, and it was the best thing that ever happened to us. We lived together in that little 2br, 1ba house, for 2 great years. he graduated because he was two years ahead of me ,and went on to medical school at Baylor . I know that can get messy, but with us, we remained just very good friends; a lot like brothers and sisters. I was actually in his wedding three years later, when he married a great girl, who was a nursing student.

I have been watching it (on ME tv?) But we are looking at it as : He's dead, she's dead, she's 94 but still alive, he's dead, he's dead, OMG she is still alive I thought she died years ago. ( I was already old and married with kids when it was on, so I guess I had a different perspective than most of you.)

I do the same; they had Betty White on, Stiller and Meara ( Ben Stiller's famous comedian parents), Adam West from Batman back in the day, and SO many others!
