#msg6021487It is not just the electric bill that is high, water, gasoline, garbage, groceries and insurance ( health, home, auto and life) is outrageous.

pickme2 : In some cases on the corporate front, record corporate profits. Companies like Lowe's made net profit. If 7.7 billion in 2025 projected 12 billion for 2026. So its most everything and it's mostly profit for these corporations. However Centerpoint Energy 1.4 billion for 2025 down to 1.1 billion net profit for 2026. Source: Alexa

Texasdad :
Checking Google for most profitable corporation in 2026 displays that financials lead the way by a lot. Money for nothing and the chicks are free.

#msg6021910ExCTGuyInTX : One couple lives here; no kids. 2 A/C units: 1.5 ton, 3.5 ton. Single pane mostly; insulated walls and added insulation on top of the existing fiberglass blankets in the attic. Fans in most rooms for circulation: YES, circulation is important. No gaps in windows..and I check them every fall to determine if added sealant is needed................very minor gaps on two doors at the threshold, but I use weather stripping to seal the gap. Yes, pool /pool filter 8- 10 hrs per day. Electric dryer used most every day.......electric dual ovens typically used on weekend............gas hot water tank and gas stove top..used every day. I clean out A/C units of leaves and mud every spring.........send Drain Chemicals down the drains at the evaperators....and change air filters out three times a year. Ohh....and we hav man-frige in garage for extra freezer and COLD beer/ water/ wine/ seltzer place!

wmubronco : Hey, cold beer is important friend!!

My electric bill is still crazy high. Is everyone else going through this too? And what company do you all use?

Inconceivable13: My highest utility bill each month is the COH water.

Inconceivable13 :

This month was $400.

A 2700 sq ft home & we keep it at 73° at all times.

$400 is usually the highest we get and then it drops off.

Amy Davis of channel 2 did a report this week about transmission fees going up very often. You can probably find her story on their website. There are two of us and we are on reliant and use their balanced billing. Due to me being anemic we keep our AC on 78. Currently in our 1650 square foot house our electricity bill was just under 110.00 this month. It should remain that for the next four months.

Inconceivable13 : My bill is higher than it used to be because before Base, I switched providers every 3-6 months, chasing the lowest rate. Sometimes it worked out well, other times my contract would end during a high period and I'd have to choose a high rate to avoid the higher rate of month-to-month. Now on a 3-year contract, it's on the low end of long contrats but still higher then a 3-month.

Regardless of rate, the bill is high due to our late season heat and accordingly higher usage. That cool air can't come to soon.

Yep-- September was awful. So was August of course. I tried really hard to keep it down-- kept the thermostat up as much as possible(I'm not sweating in my own home!) Ceiling fans, even a fan on a stand, blinds closed. Helped some. Only $300 is. We gave TXU.
