Well today I stopped a kid on a larger motorized bike riding on my home street. I started out by asking him if he noticed the stop sign at the end of the street. He said "yes but no cars were coming." That's all I needed to give him a little talking to lesson. It just so happened he was on the phone with his Mom. His phone was in a holder on his handle bar. She heard what I was saying to the kid and was very appreciative of me stopping him and giving him a good talking to. He was aware of some of the accidents kids have had on these types of bikes. He was very courteous & promised me he would start wearing a helmet, slow down & obey the same laws a car or motorcycle has. Maybe because his Mom was listening. However, I saw him a couple of times later. He was on his best behavior adhering to laws and what we discussed. He doesn't know which house I live in exactly. But I told him I'll be watching. LOL.

Good for you. I'm glad you did that. I worry seeing those kids out there being unsafe. I remember the concussion I got when I was riding my bike when I was 10... And wince when I see them!

I'm going to have to say that there seems to be a uptake in parents out on the ebikes with their kids since school started. We drove about 6 blocks today and and saw 4 different group all led by a parent and obeying street laws.

It does take a village...I am always thankful how our community watches out for each others kids and pets.

Regardless of your intentions, you have no right to "give a lesson to" or lecture another's child. That's the parent's job not yours. Your behavior was intrusive. Stay in your lane and mind your own business.

When people see innocent young minds doing dangerous things, some of us parents see an obligation to intervene and guide the young minds to make safer decisions.

I am not a fan of the innocent bystander complex when it involves a kid with a long life ahead of them. If it is a physical assault between adults then I totally understand just being an innocent bystander.

@Cbear :
Freedom of speech has nothing to do with situation.

Some people think age gives a pass to openly say or do anything. There are boundaries.

Raindrop26 : Meanwhile, here you are lecturing and "giving a lesson." Plus, not minding your own business. Gotta love the irony. Child or adult, the OP was showing concern for the safety of another human. The horror!

OBSD68 : Thank you. That may be the only concern the child gets, sadly.
