#msg6012509MissAmericanPie : Livingston area I'm so sick of Harris Co. I wish we could take what we have here and put it on 5 acres an hour north of here. It would be perfect My streets even starting to get kinda ghetto a lot of the original folks here have already sold or are renting their houses now. I'm one of the last few

@Chow : Its nice there. Not a lot of people. They dont have something similar to yours there? Is it more expensive?

@Chow : Montgomery County taxes are the same or higher, so take that into consideration, depending on the school district.

#msg6012498Cbear : If you are 65 or older, your school taxes are frozen the year you turned 65 and claimed that exemption. They can go down but not up. The county taxes are also much reduced due to senior exemptions that greatly reduce them. I doubt even those will move much at all. AI will the new raise in harris co prop taxes affect seniors with frozen status Seniors in Harris County with frozen property tax status will not see an increase in their school district taxes due to rising property values. Their tax amount is locked at the level they paid in the year they qualified for the exemption, regardless of any increases in appraised value or tax rates.

@MissAmericanPie : Thank you very much! I will look into this.

I have a family member who works for the county and I won't be more specific than that but the waste would make you cry in frustration. I know all government agencies can and often do get careless and free with their money and it seems like each dept. is trying to outdo every other dept. in terms of what monies they claim they need to function but when it gets to this constant overspending, you would hope they would back up and care.

No dept. wants funds to be taken away so they spend up to their budgets on purpose and even more than their budgets allow.
I don't know what it would take for someone to investigate line by line what they are spending money on but I am pretty sure it would make us all quite sick at heart.

#msg6012478oldarn : Yeah, Have you thought about a job change? You need to become a constable so you to can make $305k a year on the tax payers.

@TEXASGIRLMAMMA : Thought about it but I am too close to retiring to start all over in something new.

#msg6012449I dont think anyone has an extra $200 sitting around right now. Didn't they take that into consideration?? They interviewed a trucker yesterday on the news. He hauls frozen foods all over the country. His fuel bill went from $3,000 and week to $7,000 a week he paid this week. He can't afford to do it anymore.

@JCajun : They are planning a strike next month. With Congress gone things will get really bad really quickly.
