I'll say it again…….school districts should ban them during school hours. They are too fast, too dangerous, too deadly. Then parents need to ban them without adult supervision. We've ll seen by now that they ARE NOT practicing road safety. Not even close. The uptick in helmets…..puhleeze. You think that's gonna make a difference? SMH

I would love to say: "..Now, maybe parents will wake up about the dangers of these scooters.." and believe it. But... This is a tragedy that could have been avoided, and my heart breaks for the loss of the life that child could have enjoyed. May she rest in peace.

LittleTexas : So well said! Slapping a helmet on them won't do squat when they come in contact with 4 tons of steel. The misery this baby's parents must be feeling recalling the day they allowed her to ride this thing. Sooooo tragic. Parents might think the littles are practicing road safety, and some of them are, many are NOT, BUT can you vouch for the idiots texting while driving? Driving drunk? No, no you can not. would you allow your littles to play in the street, of course not…….yet they now let them drive in the streets amongst crazy *** drivers everywhere. How did this happen? SMH

Ruger5 : I think parents look at these e-bikes as a way for their little to get somewhere fast because walking is slow and there is more of a chance the child would be kidnapped if they walk. They have not thought about the consequence of them not following the rules of the road and the fact some drivers are not paying attention. The e-bike would be perfect if there were no cars.

This is so sad. Parents buying these items need to wake up. We have licenses and laws that govern who can drive cars and ride motorcycles, but nothing that anyone takes seriously governing these items. They need to be reclassified.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA : I started sounding the alarm on this from day one…….back when there were a mere handful of neighborhood kiddies who owned them. Now OMG. What the hell happened to just saying no to our littles? SMH trying real hard not to judge. Would a parent allow their kids to play in the street? No. Yet they are ok with them sharing the roadways with 4 ton chunks of steel? How did we get here? Can they vouch for the crazy *** drivers texting while driving? Driving drunk, or stoned, teen boys showing off behind the wheel? Too too too dangerous.

Ruger5 : It did happen fast and I think parents want their kid to be the cool kid. So, they caved and bought them what I consider to be a death trap. The parents will have a talk with their child and will think their child will always follow the rules. They will say, My child will never break the rules! I say never say never when it comes to your kid!Heck, They won't even let their kid walk to school!

My question is why are accidents happening involving children on e-bikes or e-scooters but not with children walking? Have children been trained how to safely cross a street when walking? The same vehicles are on the streets. Is it children cannot focus on the speed and safety simultaneously? The root issue needs to be identified, rules established and enforced. Children deserve adult supervision. They are children.

So sad. What can be done legally to keep them off the street? Parents should be held accountable; better to fine parents now than have them suffer thru a funeral for their child. Maybe parks for electric skateboarders might help, but I suppose that could be dangerous too
