Lesson learned. 😔. I thought the thing behind HEB in KW was an urgent care. A few weeks ago we took the grand there because we were in the area and he swallowed a toy he shouldn't have and from reading online they can be toxic, and he said he was having issues swallowing. He did eat breakfast and didn't tell us about the toy and swallowing until hours later. The place was not busy, only took his bp, and the dr came in and said he'll just have to pass it. $700 after insurance. This is ridiculous! I've been there once with Mom and once when the other KW UC sent me there because of the equipment they have. Never knew it was an ER and now I know why they weren't busy. I have definitely learned my lesson with both the grand and the ER. Geez!

KanKan: those places do charge a crazy amount of money. I've only been to one and I had insurance, but I still had a big co-pay somehow for someone taking my temperature and one small test which honestly since I was an EMT I could've done myself if they had given me access to the lab, but they cant, i get it. in this case, it was for a child and worth it, but now you know not to go there again. Does your insurance cover online/ video doctor visits? Those are more reasonable
Don't they take healthcare insurance? No way you should have paid $700!

Now, with them and urgent care centers being independent and standalone on almost every corner, it's easy to not be clear about their classification, but asking before you pay and are seen gives you the option to leave and find urgent care instead.

LittleTexas : He's on his parent's insurance. The dr didn't even listen to his heart or anything, what I call the usual dr stuff. Just walked in and asked a couple of questions and walked out.

Chow : He tried to puke it out before we went by gagging himself. It didn't work. Then he told us he had done it the night before by accident because he was chewing on this little squishy ball. Ugh.

luannski : Nope, no screening and that's the main reason I went there. Just said if he doesn't poop it out in a week to take him to the doctor where he lives. He went home that weekend and I told his mom but haven't heard anything. I'm hoping it passed. « Back to Chat
