There's a dog park on WHLP across 1960 in Atascocita. There's also one on Woodland Hills near Madera Run in The Groves, either newly opened or about to open.

donnatella :
Thise are both nice, the small one across from ATH has no shade and hot. The Madera run is a nice park. But neither are in KW and a 30 min drive from here. There a nice park in spring at Pundt park, lots of shade, we like it also. But again, 30 min drive w 99 toll 😞
We walk the trails but its not the same as him getting to run and sniff and explore on his own.

This needs to be privately funded. Perhaps a dog tax in kingwood? I believe ksa could monopolize this and make it happen. Own a dog, pay the fee, access the park.

Zz98721 :

Please dont use the word "tax". You want a dog park? Buy the property, create your vision and call it a country club for dogs. It will also need licensing and insurance. Charge for entry.
KSA dont want that kind of liability.

Luv2eatsushi : I agree! I have pups but never use a dog park. I would not want to pay for what I do not use, already happens enough, lol.

We used the Atascocita dog park a few years back. They had a small and large dog area. The problem is medium size dogs like 30-45 pounds don't need to be with 75+ dogs. A 75+ pound dog jumped on my dog and caused a serious tear in my dogs back leg that cost over $3000. The owner of the larger dog laughed about it. So there are risks at the park.

I have thought about this a lot as I think it would benefit the community. If there are any series buyers I have some land in Bear Branch I would be willing to sell. DM for info.

Luv2eatsushi : The issue is, it's not remotely feasible…when the dog park was open, you had maybe 100 "regulars" and then maybe another 100 who came sporadically…could you get every single one of those people to pay $10/mo for access? Probably not…maybe 70 people if you are lucky…and $700/mo won't be paying any mortgage for land…Maybe if the KSA donated a section and left paying insurance/expenses to citizens that might work…but it really would need to be open to all, not just KSA participating neighborhoods…

Levyb : I see the problem as NIMBY. No one wants to live next to a dog park. I know I wouldn't. I like dogs, but I don't see that putting a dog park in the middle of a residential neighborhood would work. Maybe something in River Grove or East End parks.

The kennels are still back there. The property is for sale but the kennels are still open. I think they put it up for sale when the land next to them was cleared a few years ago. They use the name Kingwood Pet Resort now but it's still the same owner as before.
