2 year anniversary of Beryl. Made landfall in Houston 7-8-24.

Beryl was a nasty one for sure....We kept watching out a large window facing the back yard and at times heavy gusts blew the rain straight at the window and I thought it would shatter!....Luckily, I didn't have any trees fall(lost some limbs though) but we were watching one in the back literally "twist" side to side....It already had a large hole in the trunk area that some animal could live in and a couple other issues...I knew it would probably fall....It never did...And strangely, the storm must have done something to that tree's "healing process" because within a year after the storm, that tree looks healthier than I've ever seen it....That hole in the trunk area is almost fully closed and it's been there for years!.....It's shooting new limbs everywhere and it's more full of nice green leaves than I've seen....Like everyone else, we lost power for over a week....Luckily I had my faithful portable generator and plenty of gasoline to get us by and keep the fridge and freezer going to save the food until the gas stations were open again....One of the first things I did after the storm passed was to clear out the tree/limb debris from my backyard "cool pool" to keep the water clean....I knew it was gonna be hot the next few days without electricity....And it sure was...But we stayed cool in and out of the pool!....These were the temps for the next 9 days after the storm passed:

I submitted the final piece to our claim yesterday, and it was such a relief. Our tree in front of our house fell into our house and split it in half. Thankfully everyone was safe but the house was torn down to studs and re-built. Most of our belongings were destroyed due to water damage, so a lot of contents to claim- replace- and submit receipts for final payment. SO much work with the contractor to get everything approved. Thankful for good insurance, and State Farm was a lot to work with but in the end they did us right. It was all the crazy things, staying with friends for 11 days with no power- keeping the generator going to keep dogs alive, sending our son off to college from a hotel room, moving 3 times in 2 months, re-building a house, moving again once it was done (only 8 months!)..... it was all just a lot. Unfortunately it was our second time losing our home in a hurricane (Harvey) and I certainly hope the last. 2 years later we are just doing the final touches to the outside and we are done...as we send our baby off to college. I am glad to say we made it through the other side and are stronger for it! Next hurricane headed for us you will find me and my family in Tahiti...we can't do it again!

my back fence is made of Cement and the tree fell down broke part of the fence and landed on my pool

Due to health concerns, had to find hotel room for 3 weeks until power was restored. I get a congrats letter in the mail informing me I am now a Hilton Diamond (Platinum?) club member due to my extended vacation. You don't want to know how much it costs to be member of the club.
