Woodland Hills Drive Herbicide I called City Councilman Flickinger's office and asked them to see if the City sprayed herbicide on the median of Woodland Hills Drive. The Councilman replied that he checked with the Public Works Parks and Recreation Department Division Manager for Kingwood and was told they did not apply herbicide in Kingwood. His office then checked with the Public Works and Transportation and Drainage Department and they responded they did not spray herbicide in Kingwood. We provided the date when the grass kill was first noticed and the Councilman's office had the Flock cameras checked to see if they recorded a herbicide spraying truck entering Kingwood. They found a City Parks and Recreation herbicide spray truck did enter Kingwood before the dead grass was first noticed. Upon futher inquiry, it was learned that a relatively new City employee did apply herbicide to the median by mistake without first notifying the Kingwood Division Manager. If he would have followed protocol, the new employee would have been told not to apply the herbicide to the median. The employee in question has since given notice that he is resigning from employment with the City. The deputy Director for Greenspace Management in Public Works has provided assurance this type of mistake will not occur again. The effect of the herbicide treatment should abate within three weeks. The grass may come back after that, the situation will be monitored and corrective action will be taken as required after the herbicide impact is no longer an issue.Â

What a shame!
And, I guess our tax dollars will be used to correct any more damage?

Thank you for the follow up. And glad Fred's office helped investigate.
I don't believe anybody was that dumb. Common sense would tell you you would not want to kill grass and trees in a city esplanade. That person probably thought it was really funny to do that to Kingwood, go all the way down Woodland Hills killing everything. I'm hoping the rain we had helps and doesn't hurt the trees to resist the poison.

#msg5947537CBloch : Thank you for posting this and for Flickinger's determination to get to the truth. It is unlikely anything but weeds will come back in that area. They should have to replant. I noticed some of the new small trees also look dead. It is a shame someone came out here to spray the area. I wonder if he knew it was herbicide and I wonder if there will be an investigation into why he did it. It will cost the tax payers lots of money to correct this.
