Watch your animals at night. Our neighbor's cat was killed by a coyote in her backyard last night off Hermitage Hollow.

Snoodles : that's sad. Not surprising because we've overtaken their woods. Comforting prayers for your neighbor.

One of our neighbors had their tiny puppy savagely harmed by a coyote while the neighbor was out walking the pup. The neighbor was shocked such a thing occurred right in front of his eyes and the coyote ran off after the incident leaving the neighbor stunned and upset.

Gammyof2 : You're right. We're making them aggressive and desperate because we continue to shrink their habitat and hunting grounds, leaving them little choice to survive. It would be better for everyone (except perhaps the community builders) to have fewer, smaller neighborhoods or to leave more/larger undeveloped/natural spaces between homes. Of course, that would result in significantly higher prices that many of us can't afford. There's no perfect solution.

Not good.Do they have a short fence in their back yard? Thats bold for it to have gone into their back yard. I only ask as I have always been wary because we have a short fence in our back yard.

Oh so sad. No animals are safe outdoors, especially at night. Hawks and coyotes are abundant.

I'm sorry for your neighbor's loss. It's the time of year coyotes are teaching their young how to hunt. No animal left out alone is safe and even those in a fenced backyard aren't safe. A fence may keep your pet in but likely won't keep a coyote out. They are lightning fast and can grab your pet and be over the fence in seconds. I'll spare you from the pictures of pets being taken but this is the video I post as a reminder each Spring. Paws crossed all pets are kept safe.

Gosh that is so sad. We had one we couldn't keep inside and one night never saw her again. She never wondered off. Noticed so many missing cat posters around the neighborhood then.
Prayers for your friend.

The coyotes have a right to be here just as much as the feral cats do. Even if both are a problem. The solution is keep your cat in your house then you have nothing to worry about.
