As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with  Zia Galt, owner of Home by Zia, LLC!

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around? Home By Zia LLC, est. 2022, is a full-service Houston Interior Design firm. We specialize in applying your ideas directly to a photo of your space. Results are actual products, colors, and architectural elements in a realistic design render. Designs magnificently focus on universal and barrier-free interior codes and standards, LEED ideology, as well as the Principles and Elements of Art in Design. Interior design is a very visual process, and it is easy to take the renders and communicate to contractors of your choice, or DIY. The Fabulous thing about HBZ renders is that you can see the dramatic end results before installation begins, utilizing only a photo of your
space!

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started? During my high school years, I immersed myself in interior design and home economics courses, becoming fascinated with how technical methodologies, organizational principles, and aesthetic considerations collectively enhance our living spaces and well-being.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition? Renders separates me from the competition. I am proud that my company focuses on the Integrative Design Process where realistic renders provide homeowners peace of mind and confidence when moving forward with making big purchases to complete their home design. Seeing a realistic render, compared to traditional rigid renders with generic furnishings, is backed by both LEED and USGBC. Realistic renders that utilize a photo of the space with actual furnishings and architectural features saves time, funds, and waste. Since the Integrative Design Process is sustainable, finding synergies early in the design process, Home by Zia covers the spectrum of interiors by being a Certified Professional Organizer with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture and Design. The unique services we provide clients are healthy, sustainable, holistic, and immersive home design experiences.

What is your favorite part of running this business? Project managing and developing clients’ ideas are my favorite parts of running this business. It is exciting to give homeowners an opportunity to create a timeless space they love.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best? Our ideal client is well-educated, including engineers, business owners, contractors, realtors, doctors, and more. They appreciate a hands-on approach to their projects in addition to shopping around for a trusted contractor when necessary. They understand that design can take a year or two to complete, lasting ten-plus years. They also love heavy fusions of organization, interior
design, and architecture, especially in outdated homes that no longer serve as a functional space.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
My background is in art and music. For as long as there has been design in my life, there has also been music. I own an interior design firm and a music management firm, play bass in a band, recorded five albums, and am currently enrolled at Berklee School of Music for a Master's in Music Business. Furthermore, I am a homeschooling mother of two older teens, love gardening, and have two spoiled dogs.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention? I offer 25% off all services in April to celebrate National Decorating Month and World Design Day on the 27th , annually.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
I have a Hoarding in Older Adults certification from the Boston School of Social Work. This certificate allows me to help guide families or individuals experiencing trauma, life-altering experiences, Alzheimer’s disease, and  dementia. I usually offer consecutive consultations for free as part of giving back to the earth and its people.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years? I plan to pass the NCIDQ over the next couple of years, elevating my status as a registered interior designer in the state of Texas and improving the message that interior designers are much like nurses for homes. The definition of an Interior Designer is “to protect public health, safety, and welfare.”
