As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Bart Noble,  Owner of Kingwood Mushrooms!

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been
around? Kingwood Mushrooms is here to support the greater Kingwood area with the finest choice delicacies for gourmands, restaurants, and grocery stores in the most sustainable and responsible manner possible.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I’ve always been very interested in indoor farming and also very fascinated by the amazing world of mushrooms. After a few years these two things decided to meet up in my brain and say, “Let’s start a business!”

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What
separates you from the competition?
Quality. Locally Grown. Sustainable. The next time you’re at your grocery store of choice, I challenge you to find gourmet foods like oyster mushrooms or microgreens and if you actually DO find them, I challenge you to find some that don’t look like they’ve been sitting around for five days. Without a Central Market or Whole Foods, Kingwood is really lacking on even getting sub-par gourmet foods.

What is your favorite part of running this business? Meeting my Kingwood neighbors at the farmers market and supplying a solution for anyone needing high-quality food that’s difficult or even impossible to find in our area.
When I see someone’s face light up seeing an oyster mushroom for the first time for example, it makes me so happy. Teaching them about these amazing morsels and how they are so very different from the dung-based mushrooms most of us are used to from our regular markets is my favorite part of the job.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Since we are just starting out, our ideal customer is the local Kingwood resident who is frustrated trying to find gourmet food that just doesn’t exist in the area. Or worse: bad-quality delicacies that just aren’t up to a foodie’s expectation!

We are also looking at getting into some of Kingwood’s favorite restaurants. I am calling out to all Kingwood-area chefs whose restaurants would like some exposure to send us a recipe using some of our quality ingredients so we can feature the dish and the establishment on our website at KingwoodMushrooms.com.

Additionally, we are putting together a catalog for Kingwood area restaurants and independent grocery stores to help distribute our fresh, delicious products.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I am actually a developer and data engineer. I am completely out of my realm here! But I do LOVE eating and cultivating foods like choice mushrooms and ultra-fresh (and nutritious) microgreens; they are absolutely mouthwatering!

It’s also quite fun to nerd out on learning the science and technology that can make all of this happen. It’s truly fantastic!
