this week we sat down with Marisa Thompson, owner of Always Best Care Humble Kingwood
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Always Best Senior Services has provided compassionate care for thousands of seniors and disabled adults since 1996. Care is provided through an international network of more than 225 franchised territories which expanded to the Humble/Kingwood area in 2022.
We specialize in non-medical in-home care, assisted living referral services, and a Veterans Assistance Program for residents in Humble, Kingwood, and surrounding areas. The Veterans Assistance Program allows some of America's most deserving citizens to remain in their homes longer while maintaining a healthy lifestyle by educating veterans on what VA programs are available.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I wanted to give back to my community because I understand the growing need to help ease the load of those who have aging parents or may even be aging themselves. I experienced this firsthand before recently losing my
mother when my siblings and I did not have the time or resources to care for our mother the way she needed. So I want to give back to families in a similar situation. My biggest inspiration would be my mother, who taught me the most about unconditional love and patience. What I enjoy most about this line of work is the joy and satisfaction of helping those who can’t help themselves. I consider it a blessing to be a blessing.
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Our mission is to employ competent, caring, and well-trained individuals who are responsive to the needs of our patients, their families, and the communities we serve so they can live independently. I am most proud of the compassion and care that Always Best Care provides through its caregivers. Our caregivers are trained and insured to provide the safest and highest personal care tailored to our client’s needs.
We also offer assisted living referral services at no cost to the client. In addition, we have a telephone reassurance program called “Always In Touch” that can stay in touch with anyone living alone and needing to know someone cares. We also have a Veterans Assistance Program to help those who have fought for our country and more.
What is your favorite part of running this business?
Always Best Care’s mission is to work as a team to provide the best and most reliable care services in the community, creating a circle of care between the clients, caregivers, and staff. Our goal is to promote 
independence, ensure safety in doing so. My favorite part of the business is knowing my daily efforts, whether directly or indirectly, are adding to someone’s life so that they can live longer and safer in the comfort of their own home.
Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I was born and raised in Houston, TX, the last of nine children. My parents are deceased, but I continue to live by the values they taught me. After spending over 20 years working as an IT Professional in the Oil and Gas industry, I transitioned to an author of a self-help book about my tumultuous childhood, my journey to wholeness, and overcoming low self-esteem. Since then, I have become passionate about helping others and guiding them to build self-confidence and discover their self-worth. I enjoy inspirational music, singing, and traveling to other parts of the world. I volunteer for a woman's shelter in Houston and sing at her local church.
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
Along with the primary goal of becoming the market leader in Texas, the following are the other key objectives that Always Best Care aims to accomplish in the near future: enhance and promote quality of living for our clients through premium and well-structured care services; build a good reputation and connections in the industry; achieve healthy earnings in the first year of operation; and increase sales modestly but steadily from the second year and onward.
