Christopher Curran, owner of Sailing Adelaide!
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer and how long have you been around?
Sailing Adelaide offers charters (posh sailing term for rental) on Clear Lake and Galveston Bay, starting with a 4 hour charter. Cruises can be longer and fully catered or bring your own food and drinks. We have been in business now for 2 years and have enjoyed making new friends as we glide silently across the water powered by the wind. We invite you to come aboard and experience the peace and tranquility of sailing. It is truly an incredible experience of sights, sounds and ocean smells that transports you into a relaxed and peaceful place.
How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
I have been a sailor for many years, started out windsurfing in the Greek Islands in my 20s. When my engineering practice declined in
2020, I decided to reinvent my retirement by becoming a sailing instructor and USCG licensed Captain. I enjoy sharing the experience of sailing with others, and it is a great way to celebrate any occasion as you drift across the water with family and friends.
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Adelaide is a modern 42 ft sailboat, delivered in 2017 to our specifications. She is a state-of-the-art yacht and was voted Boat of the Year in 2016 when she first appeared at the Annapolis Boat Show. We are different from the competition that we are owner operated and offer a high level of comfort and convenience.
What is your favorite part of running this business?
I enjoy sharing the sailing experience with others and also meeting new people as they board Adelaide and either discover sailing for the first time or reconnecting with sailing. It is also fun to see people sharing quality time with one another away from the day-to-day distractions of life! Watching people relax and unwind as we glide silently across the water, you can see it in their faces.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
Born in London, with a science background and worked in oil and gas for 40 years before retiring. A keen love of sailing developed in my 20s, finally leading to purchasing my first boat in 2015 with my late wife. I have turned my 
passion for sailing into something I can share with others.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
While we love sailing at any time of the day or night, we must admit that moonlight cruises are our favorite. The vastness of the water and the night sky make us wax philosophical and lead back to the beginnings of life on the water when sailors used the night sky to guide their way.
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
Looking forward to seeing many repeat clients join us going forward, along with their friends and referrals as we will continue to offer a wonderful experience as you relax and connect with your friends and family cruising across the waters of Galveston Bay and hoping to catch a glimpse of a dolphin or two.
