What happens to someone who is renting an apartment, dies of natural causes inside, and has no next-of-kin to come collect their possessions? At least one of the people in the attachment is in that sad situation.

The mission of the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is to provide medical examiner and crime laboratory services of the highest quality in an unbiased manner with uncompromised integrity. On a regular basis, we have both decedents who are unknown, and decedents who are identified but have no known next-of-kin. If we cannot find next-of-kin, the decedent must go to county burial.
