As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, we sat down this week with Jennifer Cole, owner of Jake's Buried Treasure.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
At Jake’s Buried Treasure, we strive to give our shoppers a one-of-a-kind experience. Every single penny they use to purchase items goes straight to the rescue dogs at the Jake’s House of Animal Rescue kennels. We want to make personal connections with our guests so that they feel welcome. We opened the store on December 5th, 2020, so we are quite fresh!

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
Rescuing dogs isn’t a cheap task, and we want to be able to help as many as we can! We made the decision to open a thrift store last year to help fund the veterinary bills, feeding, medications, and anything else the dogs need in order to be ready for adoption.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Not many thrift stores use 100% of their revenue to help dogs in need, and we take a ton of pride in that.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
Our favorite part of running Jake’s Buried Treasure is obviously funding the dogs at the rescue! On top of that, developing relationships with individual customers and the local community are two things that are very rewarding, and we look forward to doing a lot more of that in the future!

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Our ideal customers are anyone who love thrift shopping, and animal-lovers.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
We are offering a $20.00 bag-fill-up event every first Saturday of each month. The guests bring their own reusable bag, and fill it up with clothing for $20.00. New customers can also use the code JAKE1 at checkout to receive 10% off their first purchase!!

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We hope to be able to fully support our rescue within the next couple of years. We also want to have a positive footprint in the local community, and give our customers an experience they cannot get anywhere else.
