As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Frank Canneto, owner of Crosby Shoe Repair.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
I have over 20 years of experience repairing shoes and boots and moved to this location this year. It’s a great location between all the areas to offer our first class heel cap replacement, shoe sole repair, dye work, western boots repair, shoe shine and purse repair services.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work?
I started helping my dad when I was 7 years old by cleaning up the place. By the age of 10, I had already learned how to take things apart and put them back together again.
I was also the shoe shine kid. I was really happy back then when I got a 10 cent tip!
I owned my own shop in Florida before I came to this area; I enjoy living here!

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
I love getting the “Wow” when someone brings me something that they thought they would have to throw away and I restore the item.
I treat my customer’s stuff like my own. I know it means something to you and I care for it as you would. I give it back to you in better condition and do the best job possible.
Many farm boots have been brought to shop that frankly should be thrown away. They’re dry, cracked and have to be put back together. I repair them and I frequently get the same comment, “I didn’t think those boots would come out that good!”

What is your favorite part of running this business?
I love visiting with people when they come into our shop. I want to know what they are doing with their shoes. Our service is more personalized; we’re not just a drop off and pick it up in a few days shop.
My dad also loved spending a few minutes with his customers. We’re not a generic place and we’re glad our neighbors keep coming back to see us.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Our ideal customer is anyone who wants first class shoe, boot, purse, suitcase or whatever they love repair services. From heel cap replacements, to dye work, to sole repair, there isn't anything we can't do. We’re here to help.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
We offer the best prices and support our community. We’re active in the Crosby Huffman Chamber of Commerce and support our high school, especially the football program with ad placements.
