As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Debbie Alvarenga of Khaos Gym.

Tell us a bit about your business:  What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Khaos Gym is a family owned and operated 24-hour gym located in Porter, TX. We provide a fully equipped weight room with a variety of free weights and machines. We also provide individual and small group personal training. Khaos is the perfect garage-style gym serving everyone. We offer easy no contract month-to-month memberships.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
The gym is an extension of my passion for fitness and helping others achieve whatever goals they set for themselves.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
We are a no-frills, no-BS type of establishment. You come in, you work up a sweat, you work on yourself and you go on about your day. We have trainers to help you if you wanted guidance, or you can go at it yourself. We are all just happy to have you be part of the family.

What is your favorite part of running this business?

My favorite part is the fulfillment I get from being part of someone's desire to better themselves. It is exciting when a customer achieves something, they never thought they could achieve, like a personal record for lifting, a weight-loss goal, or pull-up, etc.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
We welcome everyone from the body-builder to the mom who wants to get back in shape after a couple kids. We have the capacity for all ranges and types of clients, all you need is the desire to better yourself and we can give you the steps to get there.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I have managed several businesses and with fitness being my passion I thought Khaos Gym would be the opportunity for me to help give back to the community. Mostly, by providing guidance on how to get healthy.  I have been an avid Cross fitter and runner for a few years, which has taught me that I love Lifting! I also enjoy a good competition! I have experience as a Nutritional Coach and am a L1 CrossFit Trainer. In addition, I am certified in CPR/AED for both adults and children.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
New Year's special -
For the month of January -
Buy one personal training session and get one 50% off. Limited to new customers.
OR
All new gym memberships will receive 10% off. Limited to new customers.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business? We will be offering small group bootcamps targeted to begin in the New Year.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We are a small gym that caters to the people who are just looking to work-out and none of the corporate nonsense you get with other gyms. We are refreshing equipment and will be providing skills training and bootcamps for small groups, slowly at first but with increasing frequency throughout the year.
