As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week we sat down with Joanne Webster, academy director of La Petite Academy of Kingwood.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
At La Petite Academy of Kingwood, we're dedicated to providing a safe, educational and nurturing environment as we prepare our children for future success. We work hard so that each child feels confident, valued and empowered - and looks forward to spending the day with us.

Every activity at La Petite Academy is an opportunity for our children to learn and to have fun. Our dedicated and skilled teachers work with a proprietary curriculum that's customized to meet each child's individual developmental needs.

Our program serves children from ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. We feature infant care, preschool, private Spanish immersion, Junior Kindergarten and before- and after-school care for school-aged children.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work?
Always being involved in education, I wanted to focus my energy on a nurturing environment, where children advance their language and communication skills, creativity, intellectual curiosity and cognitive thinking along with physical and social/emotional development. La Petite Academy offers this environment and is continuously expanding its programs and services to help children thrive.

Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
Using our exclusive Learning Care System, we're able to not only plan personalized learning activities - we also measure children's progress along the way. Since we're able to track and plan experiences to support each child's development, we can keep parents updated on how their child is growing, taking steps to ensure that progress continues. Parents can also track their child's progress daily through our mobile app, which provides real-time updates, photos, and videos right to their cell phone. It's a great opportunity for us to connect with families throughout the day as we share the "wow' moments, learning updates and important reminders.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
Even after more than 20 years of working in early childhood education, I still get excited when I see a child's eyes light up as they gain knowledge and self-confidence. We are helping to develop future leaders as we partner with families in shaping their child's educational experience.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Parents who want their children to advance their language and communication skills, creativity, intellectual curiosity and cognitive thinking, along with physical and social/emotional development each day that they are at our Academy are our ideal customers.

Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
Our educators have a passion for teaching and learning. Staff members complete in-depth training on our standards and curriculum. They also participate in ongoing professional development to continually enhance their skills and knowledge.
In addition, La Petite has been named the Partnership for a Healthier America's Partner of the Year in recognition of our work in prioritizing healthy practices. Our children are developing the foundation for a lifetime of healthy habits through our Grow Fit program, which encourages balanced nutrition and physical activity.
We also offer free registration until August 20, 2018, for any parent who provides a copy of this article.

How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We will continue to ensure that every child is academically, emotionally and socially prepared to reach his or her full potential, expanding our programs and services to fulfill this mission.
Parents can have the confidence of knowing that when the time comes, their little one will be ready for kindergarten or their school age children will be ready for their next level of education.
