FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center invites the community to celebrate mom at its 6th annual Mothers are Jewels Luncheon on Thursday, April 20 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Overlook in Atascocita. The event is presented by The Overlook.

“We are very excited about this luncheon,” said Carolyn Wise, FamilyTime board member and co-chair of the event. “Moms make us who we are and what better way for us to come together and honor our own moms and support FamilyTime in their efforts to assure no child loses their mom to a domestic violence situation.”

The highlight of the luncheon will be the special stories shared by this year’s guest speakers, Judge Laryssa Korduba, Scott Brady and Dorothy Alspaugh. “Last year, everyone was moved by our guest speakers’ tribute to their moms,” said co-chair Lori Scherr. “Listening to their stories and having them share the moment with their moms is truly special.”

Tickets to the Mothers are Jewels Luncheon are $65 per person. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available. There will be a special jewelry and designer handbags sale and silent auction as well as a raffle to win roundtrip tickets on United Airlines.

Attending this luncheon will help FamilyTime provide a safe haven for women and children escaping dangerous situations. Guests will also have an opportunity to purchase a personalized brick that will be placed at the shelter and participate in the new shelter task force capital campaign.

FamilyTime’s mission is to provide services and programs to encourage the mental health and wellness of the community as well as promote safety and support for the prevention of domestic and sexual violence.

The counseling center is providing much needed help and guidance to victims at no cost, as well as low-cost counseling to those in our community who are dealing with other issues, such as marital, depression and parenting.

FamilyTime’s shelter for victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking is doing amazing work helping individuals and families to get back on their feet, win their legal custody battles and get children the therapy and support they need.

In 2016, FamilyTime provided more than 700 women, children and men with emergency shelter services, provided 3,220 sessions of counseling to victims of abuse and other violent crimes, and 17,251 calls were answered on the 24-hour crisis hotline.
