The seventh annual Lake Houston 10K 5K race presented by Memorial Hermann Northeast and Texas Emergency Care Center is less than one week away. The Lake Houston Area Chamber is hosting the sanctioned race at 7 a.m., Saturday, August 20 at Kings Harbor on Lake Houston.
On August 20 the northbound lanes of West Lake Houston Parkway from Kings Parkway to Kings Crossing in Kingwood will be closed from 6 to 9:45 a.m., and the southbound lanes will be turned into two lanes. Officers will be at all intersections to assist with traffic flow. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and invite you to contact us at (281) 446-2128 if you have any concerns or questions.
Last year's event proved successful with more than 900 runners from across the state and country, some from as far away as Chicago. This year, the Chamber is preparing for more than 1,000 participants. The course begins and ends at King's Harbor in Kingwood, is mostly shaded and boasts picturesque views of Lake Houston and the Kingwood area.
For the first time, finisher medals will be awarded to all participants. Many racers last year specifically requested finisher medals and they have now been fully implemented into the race. Online registration is available at LakeHouston10k5k.com until 11:59 p.m. on August 19. Shirts and finisher medals are available on a first-come, first-served basis and prices $40 for the 10K and $35 for the 5K. Race day registration will be available, but will close no later than 6:40 a.m. Prices are $45 for the 10K and $40 for the 5K.
The sanctioned race offers a prize of $500 to the overall top male and female runners in the 10K race and $250 to the overall top male and female in the 5K race. Official race medals are awarded to first, second, and third place male and female finishers in the following categories: 18 & under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and over 70.
The race is USATF certified chip timed race. It is also a qualifier for Corral "A" of the Chevron Houston Marathon 10K race on January 15, 2017. Co-Presenting Sponsors for the event include Memorial Hermann Northeast and Texas Emergency Care Center; Gold Sponsors are Dockline Magazine, El Pollo Loco, K&S Sportswear, New Balance - Humble and Waste Connections of Texas.
The race will feature a Fun Zone, thanks to sponsor Skylla Engineering with bounce houses, games and more donated by Space Walk of North Houston. For more information about the race, visit LakeHouston10k5k.org or email Chris O'Dell at codell@lakehouston.org.
