As part of our ongoing "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, this week Kingwood.com sits down with Jennifer and Cesar Coronel from JC Sports.
Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
JC Sports is an athletic company providing indoor and outdoor sports instruction, leagues, birthday parties, and camps for children ages 2-12 years old. We have been open for approximately 2 years and currently serve on average 400 children per month.

Being parents of two young children we saw a need for quality sports programming in the Kingwood, Humble, and Atascocita areas. Having a background in sports and working with children, this field just made sense for the both of us. In addition, we found great programs and curriculums that offered something different in the world of sports instruction.
Tell us a couple things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition?
We are well organized and pride ourselves on good communication. Our staff as well as ourselves are extremely passionate about children and youth sports We honestly see it as a privilege to teach children sports and are honored when parents choose us. The fact that we focus on the development of the child as an athlete and an individual allows us to concentrate on what is really important; which is to have fun and develop a love for the sport.
What is your favorite part of running this business?
Getting to meet fantastic children and families and the opportunity to serve them. There are great people here in our community, and this provides an avenue to meet many of them.
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Parents who are seeking to do what is best for their child in terms of sports development. We do not believe in over-training children and stay away from a "win at any cost" attitude. We work best with parents who are more interested in a well-rounded child and long-term sports development. We like to see our relationship as a partnership with the parent rather than adversaries.
Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?Cesar and I (Jennifer) have always had a heart to reach our local community. Serving in our local churches wherever we have lived has been a top priority for the both of us. We honestly love to serve those around us and seek innovative ways to do so. Professionally, Cesar has a finance background mainly in banking and Jennifer has worked in nonprofits and ministry mainly with children's programs.
Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
We are hosting a Family Fun Day on Saturday May 28, 2016, to raise funds and sports equipment for our local Title 1 schools in Humble as well as our missions trip to Haiti in 2017. We are also hosting a soccer skills camp with Leonel Miranda (Houston Dynamo) on June 16 and 17.
Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
For us it is more than sports, we truly see our Business as a ministry. At JC Sports, your children will be children and we will coach them and teach them sports in fun and dynamic ways that are very different than your traditional sports league.
How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
As our programs and leagues become more and more popular we foresee expansion in these areas. We are always looking to bring new and fresh ideas to our area so be on the lookout. There is always something exciting going on at JC Sports.
