Lone Star College will present the 13th Annual International Education Conference, "The Global Environment: Its in Your Hands" on Earth Day, Friday, April 22.
"The annual International Education Conference is the highlight of the spring semester," said Dr. Theresa Kurk McGinley, LSC associate vice chancellor of international programs. "The keynote speaker lineup for this conference is exceptional and timely for the theme."
The conference takes place at the Lone Star Community Building and is open to all students -- high school and college -- along with faculty, administrators and community members in the Texas Gulf Coast region. It will focus on international studies, global environmental concerns, international education, study abroad programs and international students. Exhibitors will include international groups, educational travel providers, and more.
The morning keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Dirk Van Tuerenhout, curator of anthropology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science discussing the origins of man. The luncheon keynote speaker is Rear Admiral and Oceanographer Jonathan White, U.S. Navy, who is sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Houston. Adm. White will discuss the challenges in the Arctic area due to climate change.
"The knowledge and expertise of our many speakers make for wonderful insight for students, faculty and community members, not to mention the valuable information that will be available from the conference exhibitors. This is a conference you don't want to miss," said McGinley.
The early registration fee for the day-long conference is $25 for students and $40 for others. Late registration (after April 4), pending availability, will be $30 for students and $45 for others. In addition, registration is free to the first 100 Lone Star College students who register online at LoneStar.edu/IEC.
Those interested in submitting presentation proposals for the conference must do so by Feb. 15 to be considered for acceptance. The presentation should relate to the environmental focus of this year's conference.
