Each year, a Christmas tradition at Bear Branch Elementary School is for the Fifth Graders to perform a version of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker." "The Nutcracker”
tradition began in 1999 by music teacher Debbie McKinney,
Ed. D. and has continued every year since then. With every new performance,
additional costumes, make-up, props and scenery are added so that it becomes better and
better. The students sing the songs while Toy Soldiers, Mice, Sugar Plum Fairies,
Russian Bakers, Candy Flutes, Chinese Dancers, Arabian Dancers, and Flowers dance away.
This year's performances will be Friday, December 5, at 2:30 p.m. for the student
body and Monday, December 8, at 6:40 p.m. for the PTA meeting. Both performances are in
the Bear Branch School Auditorium, 3500 Garden Lake Drive, Kingwood, Texas.
"The Nutcracker" is a delight for all ages, and it is a night the Fifth Graders will remember for the rest of their lives.
