“Underwear is a basic necessity for self-dignity, and every child deserves fresh, clean underwear for school,” said Rabbi Amy Weiss, founder and executive director of Undies for Everyone. “We’re thrilled to partner with MW Cleaners, whose vast network of locations across Houston will help spread the word about the need for underwear for underprivileged students. Through this partnership, we can provide more underwear to Houston schools before the new school year begins.”
“Sometimes, we take the little thing such as clean underwear for granted,” said Mike Nesbit, president of MW Cleaners. “However, everyone, including children, need self-esteem and dignity.” MW Cleaners is in the image business, and we help people feel good in what they wear. Helping Undies for Everyone is just a natural extension of our philosophy.”
More than 60 percent of all students in eight Houston-area school districts are economically disadvantaged. In Houston ISD, nearly 80 percent of the students fall into this category. MW Cleaners and Undies for Everyone hope to make a difference in the Houston community through the upcoming drive. MW Cleaners is proud to support the community, according to Nesbit. “Our loyal customers give us the opportunity to give back and get involved in projects that benefit so many, such as Undies for Everyone.”
MW Cleaners recently sponsored a Father’s Day tie drive with The Salvation Army of Greater Houston to benefit the Harbor Light Center. In just two short weeks, MW Cleaners received 13,000 ties. “The outpouring of support was just incredible,” said Nesbit. “I hope the community will be equally as generous with Undies for Everyone.”
In 2012, The Men’s Wearhouse acquired Nesbit’s Cleaners, which started in 1978, and named Nesbit president of MW Cleaners. Under his direction, MW Cleaners has expanded to 37 Houston locations, seven new locations in the Austin and surrounding areas and employs 450 people. Nesbit has been involved in the dry cleaning industry for more than 30 years. Nesbit is past president of both the Southwest Drycleaners and Laundry Association and the Greater Houston Cleaner’s Association. Nesbit was most recently named to the Board of Directors of the Drycleaning and Laundry Institute, the world's leading professional garment organization.
