In an effort to help local animal rescue groups participating in the 5th Annual Kingwood Barktoberfest, Pampered Paws Boutique and Nature’s Variety pet foods are preparing a special food drive event.
Caring for thousands of neglected and abandoned animals each year is an expensive endeavor. Animal shelters and rescue groups are not funded by the city, state or government and every penny really counts! These shelters and rescue groups rely on donations and local pet related events to help continue their mission to help the animals of our community. Recognizing the need for a pet event in the Kingwood area, entrepreneurs Jamie Bakke from Pampered Paws Boutique and Jennifer Kitchens of Urban Paws Magazine teamed up in 2007 to create Kingwood Barktoberfest. The goal of the annual event is to increase awareness of the importance of rescue and adoption, promote responsible pet ownership, and most importantly to raise funds for the local animal shelters and rescue organizations who work year-round to make a difference in the lives of our four-legged companions. The event will also provide prospective pet owners an opportunity to meet and greet pets available for adoption as participating rescue groups will all bring some of their foster pets to occasion.
Houston’s shelters and rescue groups are over-crowded and their volunteers over-burdened with the expense of caring for and feeding thousands of homeless pets.
“Many of our customers as well as friends, family and business associates are involved in pet rescue or in a non- profit pet-related association of some kind; therefore, we see daily the amount of time and money that volunteers spend out of their own pockets to help Houston’s homeless pets,” says Jamie from Pampered Paws Boutique. Jamie adds that, “It is critical to their success that community members and businesses get creative and cooperate their efforts to help out.”
This year, Nature’s Variety has partnered with Pampered Paws Boutique to provide community members with an opportunity to help feed these rescued animals by participating in the Kingwood Barktoberfest food drive.
Jenny DiGaetano, spokesperson for Nature’s Variety, Inc., explains, “When a customer comes into Pampered Paws Boutique anytime Saturday, November 5th through Saturday, November 12th, and purchases any size bag of Nature’s Variety Prairie for donation to the participating rescue groups, we will match their food donation – pound for pound.”
Nature’s Variety has been a sponsor of Kingwood Barktoberfest since it’s inception and their support continues to grow each year. In addition to their partnership with Pampered Paws Boutique for this year’s event, they have also donated $750 in their dog food to be given to a participating rescue group at the event.
Food can be purchased and donated at Pampered Paws Boutique located at 3019 Woodland Hills Drive, or in their booth at Kingwood Barktoberfest. The 5th Annual Kingwood Barktoberfest will be held at Town Center on November, 12, 2011 from 10am – 4pm. Food donated will benefit participating rescue groups at Barktoberfest.
To sweeten the deal, Kingwood Barktoberfest will provide raffle tickets in exchange for each food purchase. Dozens of area businesses have donated products and services to be raffled at this year’s pet festival and adoptathon. When you donate a 5 lb bag, you will receive 1 ticket, 15 lb bag earns you 2 tickets and for a 30 lb bag you’ll get 4 tickets.
