The LSC-SBDC Advisory Council will recognize successful small businesses that make an impact in the local community and on the economy.

Small business owners will be selected on the basis of leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, business growth and success, and contribution to the community.  Three finalists will be selected from each of the five college service areas and ultimately one winner from each college area.

All 15 finalists will be recognized at the 23rd Annual Small Business of the Year awards banquet on Nov. 19, 2009.

The SBDC is excited about the 23rd year of this remarkable event where we are able to recognize some of the areas exceptional businesses for what they do, said Tammie Jeffers, chairperson of the nomination committee of the council.  The SBDC is delighted that we are able to carry on with this great tradition and to help spotlight successful small businesses in this very special way, said Sal Mira, executive director of the LSC-SBDC.

Guidelines and nomination forms are available by visiting http://sbdc.LoneStar.edu/. Applications are due Aug. 3.

Jill and Pat Boullion are owners of Boullion Graphics, winners of the LSC-SBDC Business of the Year award for the LSC-CyFair service region in 2007.

"Our selection as Small Business of the Year has not only been great recognition of our firm's longevity and community outreach, it has been a great marketing tool for us, said .  Many of our clients are large, multi-national firms and having the credibility conveyed by winning this prestigious award has strengthened our relationships in the marketplace."

Mira said business owners and community members alike are encouraged to submit the names of those they know in the LSCS service area that they feel would be deserving of this Business of the Year recognition.

The LSC-SBDC works with existing companies to help them get started, grow and compete in today's global economy. SBDC services are available for companies in every phase of the business life cycle, helping entrepreneurs make sound decisions and succeed.
