With the many budget cuts in Humble ISD this year, the special education programs at our high schools have had to make some unfortunate sacrifices. They were asked to cut back on the number of community based learning trips, supplies, equipment, and field trips. Many Life and Applied Skills students have a difficult time taking skills they learn in the classroom and transferring them to life in the community. An activity that may seem simple for some; ordering food in a restaurant, locating and using the post office, or even crossing the street safely; is extremely difficult for many students with disabilities. These students need ample opportunity to practice these skills. Without funding, those opportunities are limited at best. The vocational class decided to help out.

Courtney McGrew's Vocational Experience class has teamed up with a company called Pride Distributors to create a board game called Kingwoodopoly. Much like the traditional game, Kingwoodopoly allows players to purchase properties on the board and try to take over Kingwood! Each space features a local business in our community. These local businesses generously donated to have their company name included on the game. We were astonished at the rush of generosity and enthusiasm shown by our local business owners! Thanks to them, we can now say that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the game will go straight to the Special Education departments at both Kingwood High School and Kingwood Park High School.

The games are now on sale! There are only 1,250 games in print which makes this a limited edition collector's item! You can pick one up today for only $25 at the following locations:
