Research has shown that teachers new to the field of education spend an average of $800 on their classroom. To help offset this cost, the Humble ISD Education Foundation developed the First Year Teacher Grant Program. This is a program that offers support of $50 to each new teacher, who is entering the teaching world for the very first time. The money is used to purchase supplies for their classroom. In 2008, the Foundation awarded $7,350 in First Year Teacher Grants.
In support of this program, HEB recently donated $3,000 to the Humble ISD Education Foundation. Thanks to HEB, many first year Humble ISD teachers will be able to select which items they would like for their classroom. The Humble ISD Education Foundation is committed to soliciting the support of community partners for the funds needed for this project. As a contributor to this innovative program, HEB is leading the way in support of all new Humble ISD Teachers.
