Interview with Jason Sommers, Owner of Sommers Home Remodel & Repair - Kingwood

This week in our "Getting to Know Your Local Businesses" series, we sat down with Jason Sommers, owner of Sommers Home Remodel & Repair.

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
For generations the Sommers family has been “Remodeling Kingwood” and surrounding areas. We provide 3D

design for every project large or small and deliver a budget conscious build.
I have been a trusted design/build remodeling contractor since 1994 and have gained the appreciation and support of our loyal customers through a strong commitment to exceed their expectations.

How did you decide to get involved in this line of work? How did the business get started?
Since I was a kid growing up in Kingwood we were always remodeling our home to accommodate our large family. After graduating from Kingwood High school and while attending The Art Institute of Houston my Dad and I started residential remodeling in 1994 under his established business, Ashworth Design and Remodeling. My Dad retired from the business in 2023 and I continued to run the family business under the name Sommers Home Repair and Remodel.

Tell us a few things you are proud of about your business. What are you known for? What separates you from the competition? Sommers Home Repair and Remodel is most proud of our deep roots in Kingwood. We have had a project in every village over the past 30 years. We are known for exceptional attention to detail in all phases of a project and maintaining a loyal relationship with our clients.

What is your favorite part of running this business?
I love all phases of the business. From the first interaction with a client to making their dreams come alive with a 3D rendering to the final paint touch ups.I even like all the paperwork involved that keeps a project running smoothly.

Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?

Our ideal customer is looking for an experienced, reliable and straightforward company that can provide a creatively inspired design, remodel or renovation project or that can design and build a new home from concept to completion.

Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
I have been involved with residential construction my whole life. I have worked in every position within the business for over 30 years. I have been involved with the Greater Houston Builders Association, Texas Institute of Building Design and won various design and remodeling awards

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
We are offering a 50% discount on design services. Offering this discount allows the client to visualize their project and receive a plan set necessary for city permitting and accurate pricing.
