It's a really nice thing Kingwood.com does to provide for this celebration with fireworks, but once it becomes an annually event, people tend to look forward to it. I can definitely understand their disappointment when going and waiting and nothing happens. Disappointment not for themselves because they are entitled, but for the children. So please, stop with the entitlement reference.

DonnaScott:  This was NOT a Kingwood.com event.  Just a place where people have chosen to post their complaints.  The event was a Town Center Park event, and apparently KW Country Club sponsored some or all of the fireworks.

I call those free comments bs. They money that me and my family spent down at Town Center yesterday. I'm sure the City of Kingwood made plenty of money to pay for a decent firework show. Completely unacceptable You know that vendors have to pay to set up tents. 4951

Bjasonb76: Oh-Good-Ness!!!!!!City of Houston, not City of KingwoodVendors pay a small fee to set up tents, and yes, that goes to Town Center Park, the event coordinator, but it was not nearly enough to pay for the event itself. Did you see where fireworks are $1300 per minute?

It sounds like the event isn't moving from the country club next year. Perhaps it is time to take this community event out of the hands of the businesses. The country club can do whatever it wants on its own for its members. We are a community, distinct from downtown Houston and the goings on there.  We have a service association which handles operational management of our parks, entrance ways, etc.  Why don't we just pay a very small amount more in our HOA fees to have them handle the fireworks show?  I looked up the cost of an average municipal fireworks show.  According to google, it averages $20,000.  If only 5 of the ~20 HOAs agreed to contribute, the assessment per house for the fireworks would be between $1-4 dollars annually. Most of the people in town center, the old HEB parking lot, the high school and all of the other places around the would have paid this amount per car to see the fireworks. Some people said it isn't wasn't that important. In response, let me ask you this?  Is there another event in Kingwood which brings the Kingwood community out together en masse outside of the fourth of July? I would hate too see people get fed-up with this event in our community and go to other communities to see fireworks. If you don't feel that the people would agree to pay through their HOA fees?  Try crowdfunding - after last night I think that you'd get all the money you needed with a few community emails in one day on gofundme EmoticonAnd Yes, I would be willing to help although I have no authority so perhaps I will appeal to my HOA and others can do likewise. 4951

I didn't run the numbers as you did, but agree, that if it comes down to $5 or less annually for HOA dues, it seems reasonable to have them run a show in a more accessible place.  I would also say though, that the parade itself is another event that exists every year outdoors, and which the entire community can attend, so there already is an event, albeit one without explosions.  4951

People who live in Kings Mill don't need no stinking Town Center Fireworks! My neighbors go so ridiculously all-out that you get sick of fireworks hours before they are done.  I wish I had the money my neighbors spent on fireworks for last night! 4951

...and they'd probably still ask/pay to use KCC bc of the space requirements.

You're correct. It was tough having to explain to my boy that there were going to be no fireworks. He's been looking forward to this event for the past month. Just disappointing for all of the children out there. 4951

BooBear:  My guess is the kids have long since moved on and it's the adults still angry.  Good life lesson here to teach them that sometimes things don't always go as planned, but we can still celebrate the holiday and have fun.

Thank you for your apology and explanation. But I have to say I am ticked about last nights fireworks.  Not only were they late, but wrong location. I mean seriously, why relocate them to begin with? Realizing they were coming from the country club made me even more furious bc what? They wanted their own private show or something? My husband travels a lot for work. For the first time in 4 years he got to be home for the 4th of July and all of us being so excited that he'd be home to watch the fireworks with us finally and then we can just barely see them over the trees!! That's horse crap!! Was there any notification to the public that they would be fired off somewhere else? Bc there were a ton of people all at town center and in the field behind the old HEB just sittin and waiting. A complete let down. Maybe some test firing next time would be useful.

They have always been fired off from the country club. This year they were moved to a new higher elevation at the club. Unfortunately there was a miscalculation and they were not fired high enough. Even people who were at the club said that many of the fireworks did not make it past the trees. Obviously there was a mistake made. That does not mean that we can or should blame any one person. You got to spend time with your family, that should be what is most important. 4951

Actually some pay for this event via HOA donations.  We also pay for it by doing business with the merchants in town center who help to fund it.  The event was advertised as a town center event which was a minor deception in and of itself.  Kingwood CC advertised  that non-members could attend for $29.99 plus tax and gratuity, member cost was $24.99 ++.  A VIP package was also available for $75.  I think the answer is pretty simple as in all things in life, just follow the money and see where it leads.  Life is full of choices so we just need to make prudent decisions.  Sadly as I see it, Kingwood CC got a lot of unwanted negative publicity from this event.  It'll be interesting to see what apples fall off the tree as a result.Nonetheless, the true meaning of the 4th should not be diminished by this incident.  We should all be thankful for our freedoms which we have come to take for granted.  I bleed red, white, and blue. 4951
