It was a KCC membership drive.....one possible option for close firework viewing with food & adult beverages is to join KCC. 4951

Excellent post. Sums it all up.

Thanks for stating what is simple common sense.

My teen years hero was Coach Bear Bryant. He told his 1st Alabama football team he was going to "teach you how to do things you don't feel like doing". And he did.

Too many people today were never taught that lesson. 4951

I'm grateful that our lives are so blessed that we can complain about fireworks. 4951

KCC has had the fireworks at their location before and it was visible from Town Center.  Clearly that didn't happen this year.  I am sure that KCC will be talking to the people who set the fireworks off to find out what happened, so this will not be repeated.   And again, to the person who was complaining about KCC having the fireworks set off from their location, really?  They paid for them, they can set them off where they want to.  Logically setting them up to go off, from a higher elevation than normal, would just stand to reason that everyone would be able to see them.  Clearly something went wrong, and I am sure they will do all they can to fix this for next year.

Fallon:  Have you heard any info as to why it was moved from one launch site to the other, while still on KCC grounds?  Easier access, more space?

donnatella: Here is something I read elsewhere:We fire 6" shells which typically explode at around 300' so we do not expect any difficulty seeing them from all the usual locations. We did move to the 18th green fairway to accommodate the Country Club who contributed to the cost for the first time. The location is further South and West but is significantly higher. I think the other locations (Kings Harbor tonight and Overlook on Tuesday) shoot 3" shells as they do not require such a big protected area around the firing location. We did look at doing the same so that they would only be visible from the Park and the Club and we could have a longer display. But we decided to stick with the bigger shells that cost us around $1300 a minute!! We have to have a City and State permit and need a 400ft radius around the firing site with nothing in it! And 800ft radius with nothing combustible,

I certainly don't think that people complaining are doing so because they consider themselves entitled!!!! I wasn't even in town this year, but heard how disappointed my neighbors were when they took their grandchildren to a "nothing" event. This has been a community event, and if donations were requested for help to support the fireworks display, I would be willing to bet, you would have people stepping up to the plate and help. I would for one. It's a really nice thing Kingwood.com does to provide for this celebration with fireworks, but once it becomes an annually event, people tend to look forward to it. I can definitely understand their disappointment when going and waiting and nothing happens. Disappointment not for themselves because they are entitled, but for the children. So please, stop with the entitlement reference. 4951
