Houston Police Department Burglary of Motor Vehicle Prevention Campaign

HPD's Kingwood Division and some local business are teaming up in a Burglary of Motor Vehicle Prevention Campaign in the Kingwood and surrounding communities. Houston Police would like to invite residents to join their efforts in reducing the most preventable of crime...Burglary of a Motor Vehicle!

During the month of June, HPD officers will be inspecting random vehicles in random business parking lots throughout Kingwood for a "Pass" or "Fail" score. To pass the inspection, you would have to secure your car doors and windows, lock away valuable items in your trunk and do not leave any valuable items unattended inside your car. Be on the look out for these inspection cards to be left on your windshield.

Upon receiving a "Pass" score on your vehicle inspection card, write your name on the back of the card and drop it off at or mail it to the Kingwood Police Substation...

3915 Rustic Woods Dr
Kingwood, TX  77339

You will be entered into a drawing for chance to win a prize from one of the local businesses in the Kingwood area. The winners will be notified at the end of June.

That's neat but I purposely leave my doors unlocked, I'd much rather lose the $.37 in the cup holder than having to replace a soft top. I just try not to leave anything in it.

I think they may have done this before, I remember getting something similar on my windshield at the park and ride a few years ago.

@BooBear:

I'm sorry, but they didn't give me any info on where to mail the "Fail" inspection cards.

It has been nice they last few days, seeing way more police cars in Kingwood.

We just need to get them to patrol the neighborhood streets after dark.  That should stop a lot of the senseless vandalism we get in the summer.  And maybe, just knowing they will do this, would get a few parents to get their heads out of their butts and realize their kids will get in trouble.  No way a parent is clueless as to what their kids are doing, when they are out walking around all night, and the next day there is a lot of vandalism.  I have never understood this about Kingwood.

Having a few of these kids brought home, late at night, with the police lights on, would maybe wake up a few parents  Or at least embarrass the heck out of them.

Sorry no police have a right to check your car doors without probable cause and / or a warrent.
Placing a pass or fail card on your windshield is a tip to the crooks and puts you yourself in danger lingering at your windshield getting the card off.
Just riminds me of the stopping innocent people for doing the right thing and rewarding them a gift card. Stupid.
Don't touch my car. If my dog is in ot, it's on with ac and music but locked. If I did not lock it, nothings in it. Not even loose change. Or I'm right there. If I saw a cop in my car, I'd call another cop and have the trespassers arrested.
I find it very over reaching and people are suckers. Police know to dangle a cash carrot.
Ex: cash/food for guns buy backs. Stupid.

@Fallon:
They're out after dark fighting important crime like giving a parking ticket for a landscape trailer being parked on the street at 3am - per story on one of the other sites. I feel much safer knowing they're tackling the important issues in our community.

Totally agree if you want to keep something take it in your house. A car is not a vault.

@beadweaver: actually, the probable cause/warrant issue would be if they entered or searched the vehicle. To simply look and see if the lock is up or down does not break the plane of the vehicle (such is the same for anyone placing hands inside a open window to reach inside=burglary of motor vehicle). Now I doubt they'll go as far as to open the door. Also, it is illegal to leave a car running unattended see Tx Trans Code 545.404, just FYI

I hope those little dickens don't accidentally open my car door & remove a box of mace bear pepper spray w red paint which will automatically spray all over whomever opens the box.

I'd like to see someone try to sue me for damages.

@ExTxOfficer:
First I got out of texass because we couldn't find a doctor that wasn't so scared of the police, they'd treat our aging issues.
I have seen them promote it on the news. They walk parking lots tugging car doors. Keep your freakin hands off. Leaving a theif a little card of pass or fail.
Reminds me when I was 5 or 6 ( back in the sixties when we didn't lick things down every time we looked away or ran to the store), we were headed out to church and my grandpa jumped back out of the car saying oops, forgot to lock the door. I pipped up saying why? we never do. He told me locks don't keep bad guys out, it slows them down. Being a smart a$$, I said an honest person wouldn't check if it was open.
As for rewarding those that do right ( drive speed limit, use blinkers, etc) it's like your looking for something but hey, your good.
Like joe arpio back in the day wanting a thumbprint on a speeding ticket. Get out of town. He was deranged.
As for lettin my car run to run into a dry cleaners is nowhere near as bad as what the frackers are doing.
As I said, don't need an award just like law enforcement needs to keep their paws off my stuff and noses out my windows.
Maybe get out there and do something about real crime. Ya know the gang banging, meth making, pedophiles.
You see they fuel an industry. You got a job (with overtime), the d.a. has a job, the defense lawyer has a job, the judge has a job, the bailbond guy got a job, the jailer has a job, the prison employs many, the parole guy got a job too.

@Ebola:

And cans of pop. Lol not me but a friend grabbed 12 pack, ran her errands, got home and said... screw it, I'll bring it in tomorrow. About two hours later she ran out to get something and 6 of the 12 blew. Btw they were in the back seat. Need I say more. Lol
Oh and those pretty crystals hanging from the mirror, nothing like a magnifying glass to start a decent smolder.
