Take a minute to read about one of our fellow Kingwoodians, Terry, and the awesome volunteer work he does for kids.
As the PGA TOUR prepares for the Shell Houston Open March 27 - April 2, more than 1,500 volunteers will help ensure the tournament will be an enjoyable experience for fans and players. In addition, these volunteers have enabled the tournament to raise more than $60 million for charity since 1992, when the Shell Oil Company became the title sponsor. This year’s volunteer pool includes Terry Traylor of Kingwood, Texas, who will celebrate his 6th year volunteering at the tournament when it begins at the Golf Course of Houston Tournament Course. As owner and operations managers at SpringHill Suites by Marriott at the Houston International Airport, Terry was drawn to the hospitality committee where he greets fans at the popular SHO Club 16 skybox and lounge located behind the 16th green.Terry is drawn to the tournament each year by the friends he’s made and the opportunity it presents to give back to the community. As a longtime volunteer coach with The First Tee of Greater Houston, Terry is giving to his core. His role with The First Tee allows him to interact with children (he and his wife have 5 grown children) and teach them life skills through the game of golf. In fact, he is serving as a team captain for this year’s Champions Challenge, a competition involving more than 400 Houston-area 4th graders. This year at the Shell Houston Open, Terry is participating in the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge, a friendly competition that honors the talent and dedication of more than 100,000 PGA TOUR volunteers nationwide while supporting local charities. He is competing on behalf of The First Tee of Greater Houston. From now until 1 p.m. CT on April 1, volunteers are asking people to vote for them at...http://tourchallenge.com/ShellHoustonOpen/SelectVolunteerThose who do not know a volunteer can vote directly for the tournament. At the end of the voting period, the volunteer team with the most votes will present a $10,000 check on behalf of Astellas Pharma US, Inc., to its chosen charity from a list selected by the tournament. The tournament also has the opportunity to earn up to an additional $65,000 in charitable bonus funds based on the total number of votes received collectively by volunteers and the tournament. 4951
