Wildlife in our neighborhood . . . Today dd#1 noticed this all

Where you see swamp palmetto plants you may find alligators, water snakes and more

We had a gator in retention pond right behind our neighborhood park. It was a little unsettling.

Yikes! I knew they were in the lake but hopefully not near houses. I once attended a convention in Tampa and was terrified to leave my room as alligators were everywhere.

Deer, squirrels, possum, raccoon and birds.

Saw Bald Eagles at Oakhurst and Tour 18 golf courses and a wild turkey at Cypresswood GC.

I've seen them in East End Park and recently near the pier in Royal Shores.

Kittle: we were having the same issue . It took some good two weeks to finally get rid of what ever was . We were never able to figure it out." You must have good soil", it's what the exterminator said . They're after worms .

Furface11 : Wait, what? Someone swims in a lake known to have alligators in it?

peppermintstick : Those sound interesting to have in a backyard. Of course alligators are interesting, too, but I'd much rather have the critters you see close to your home.

golfshot : Do you pause playing and take pictures? I can't even imagine seeing a turkey flying through the air. Maybe wild turkeys are trimmer and more agile than supermarket turkeys?

Cstomio123 : Yes, earthworms are what they are after. I read that armadillos can smell earthworms up to six inches deep in the soil. Over many years I've tried hard to encourage earthworms in our lawn and garden. Then armadillos dig up and eat as many earthworms as they can. Then it rains hard and worms come up to the surface and flocks of egrets swoop down and munch away on those exposed earthworms.

ExCTGuyInTX : Probably in the future of friends and family of the animal control guy who catches them and takes them away. Their "relocation" probably means dinner plus boots, belts, wallets, and purses for somebody. So far, not for me.

The two most interesting wildlife experiences I've had here in Kingwood: during the terrible 2011 drought wild animals were coming in for water because people were still watering their yards. I was on the greenbelt and saw a red wolf/coyote hybrid that was REALLY BIG--bigger than my labrador retriever! Fortunately he was just as happy to get away from me as I was from him. The second was after Harvey, when everyone was dumping their spoiled food from refrigerators on the debris piles. I went to the end of the driveway to dump something, and a bobcat was just strolling up my driveway after enjoying a buffet. He/she was not the least bit concerned about me being nearby.

This one was walking quickly. They usually flock and eat together, as many as 10 or more. The gobbler can get huge and is magnificent. My phone was in my golf bag by the time I got it. The turkey took cover. They look so different in the wild. It was also very close to being selected our national bird. but the Bald Eagle won out. Next time I will be better prepared.
