StormChaser :
1) Briggs & Stratton Power Protectâ„¢ 26kW Aluminum Standby Generator (200A Service Disc. + Symphony Power Mgmt.)
2) Electric Generators Direct (they had it here 4 days after I ordered it, no shipping fee)
3) about 3,000sq. ft. including the shop.
Be sure you figure out exactly what you want it for. I wanted "whole house" not just to run a few things. I wanted quiet as well. Also, if you tend to have any standing water anywhere around where you it's location (after it's approved by the HOA) you will want at least a 12" foundation for it so you never have to worry about it.
Look at the cost of maintenance for it for oil changes and filters.
Also, I had a local master electrician install ours and the switch box.

Whole home generator 1️⃣What brand do you have? 2️⃣ Where did you purchase it? 3️⃣ What size is it? (What size is your house?) 4️⃣ Did anyone buy one directly (like Lowes) and then have it installed by someone who does generator? (I'm guessing electrician or plumber) ✳️ My husband is thinking we need either a 16 or 20 KW. ✳️ Our house is 2 stories & 2500 square feet. We've been talking getting one for almost 6 years - esp after the freeze, this BS this week, PLUS a very active hurricane season less than 2 weeks away. All I know is that I'm not doing this again. (Day 4 without power) Thanks everyone. 💚

StormChaser : One minor point as people reference their generator output in kilowatts: On natural gas, the fuel any of us here would use for a whole home backup generator, generator output is less than on propane or gasoline. That's why you see generator output listed as 20kw / 18 kw, for example.

considered Solar , you will need batteries in addition to backup that energy for usage when power is out. pros No noise ; cons lots of scammers in that industry

StormChaser : I looked into this about 6 years ago. 11k and no doubt higher now. I did NOT pull the trigger and wish I had.
